Jasper United Methodist Church launches
“Come and See” plan for outreach
Special events on
June 16th and 18th
By Suellen Reitz
If you’ve been out and
about town the last couple of
weeks, you have probably
seen several folks wearing
bright red t-shirts with the
JUMC logo on front and big
letters across the back saying
simply... ‘‘come and see”.
Come and see what you ask?
That’s just the question those
with the shirt are hoping to
hear.
Pastor Greg Meadows ex

book or see a great movie, do
you keep it to yourself? No.
You want to tell others.. .you
share it with those you know
because you want them to
have the same great experi
ence. That’s the way we feel
about JUMC and the love we
share with Jesus Christ and

Grace to
Approach God
By Pastor Asa Dockery
Exodus 3:2-3, And
the Angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a
flame of fire from the
midst of a bush. So he
looked, and behold, the
bush was burning with
fire, but the bush was
not consumed. Then
Moses said, "I will now
turn aside and see this
great sight, why the
bush does not burn." -
NKJV
God’s grace wasn’t given
to see how far we can
stray into sin and remain
saved. The gift of grace is
given to those who hum
ble themselves so that
they can draw near to
God and not be con
sumed.
In the scripture above,
Moses is hiding out in the
desert after he had killed
an Egyptian. It is in this
context that the Angel of
the Lord appeared to
Moses as a flaming fire.
When the presence of
God filled the bush,
Moses noticed that it was
on fire, but the bush was
n’t consumed. The Lord
was demonstrating to
Moses how His grace em

Controlling
Our Tongues
F rom listening comes wisdom; from
speaking, remorse often follows. Silence
is rarely punished, whereas we are often
chastened for what we say. Of course, there
are times when it takes moral courage to
speak up in the face of injustice, but even
then, it is wise to consider carefully what we
should say. We have all had the experience of
speaking too hastily and then regretting it, but
only rarely do we regret holding our tongues.
We simply cannot take back our words. Once
spoken, they are there forever. But we can, if
we hold our tongues and decide later that the
thing really needs to be said, decide to say it,
and to say it with caution, tact, and charity.
There is an old adage which says that before
speaking we should consider if the thing is
true, if it is necessary, and if it is done for the
benefit of the other person, and if you can
answer yes to all three, then say it, but
consider carefully how best to do that. Of all
the parts of the body, surely our tongues are
the most unruly and difficult to control. A well-
controlled tongue is a sign of a disciplined
mind and keeping silent is often rewarded
with the added benefit of learning something
new. Resolve to be a better listener and a quiet
observer rather than a loquacious babbler, a
gossipmonger, or the person who feels that
every silence must be filled with words.
-Christopher Simon
“Do not let any unwholesome talk
come out of your mouths, but only
what is helpful for building
others up according to their
needs, that it may benefit those
who listen. ”
