Los Angeles Dodgers.
During that time, he hit
for a 0.264 average with
241 home runs and 775
RBIs. Monday also made
a pair of All-Star appear
ances while earning a
World Series ring with the
Dodgers in 1981.

On this day in 1914,
Pittsburgh Pirates short
stop, Honus Wagner, col
lected his 3,000th major
league hit. He went one
for three with a walk and
run scored, but it was the
Pirates’ only run as they
fell to the Philadelphia
Phillies, 3-1. Wagner re
tired in 1917 with 3,430
hits and was inducted into
the Baseball Hall of Fame
in 1936.
June 10th:
On this day in 1996,
the Colorado Avalanche
won their first Stanley
Cup in franchise history
following a 1-0 triple
overtime victory and four-
game sweep of the Florida
Panthers. Colorado de
fenseman, Uwe Krapp,
scored the walk-off goal at
the 4:31 mark and Avs
center, Joe Sakic, won the
Conn Smythe Trophy.
Sakic collected 18 goals
and 16 assists for a total of
34 points during the ’96
playoffs.
June 11th:
On this day in 1985,
Philadelphia Phillies left
fielder, Von Hayes, be
came the first player in
major league history to hit
two home runs in the first
inning of a game. Hayes
smacked a leadoff solo
shot before adding a grand
slam later in the frame.
The Phils erupted for nine
first inning runs and
jumped out to a 16-0 lead
before routing the New
York Mets, 26-7. Philadel
phia’s run total remains a
franchise record and it
represented the most in a
National League game
since 1944.
June 12th:
On this day in 1990,
New York Yankees closer,
Dave Righetti, picked up
the 200th save of his
major league career dur
ing a 5-4 win over the
Boston Red Sox. Righetti
retired in 1995 with 252
saves to his resume. He
also led the American
League in that category in
1986 while winning two
Rolaids Relief Man
awards.
