THURSDAY. JUNE 10. 2021 PICKENS COUNTY PROGRESS PAGE 3A
Honor America during Flag Week
Pickens County Commission Chair Kris Standi signs a proclamation for Flag Day
along with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
On Thursday, June 3,
Pickens County government
and the Daughters of the
American Revolution con
vened to sign the “Flag Day
2021” proclamation. The
proclamation, signed by
Chairman Kris Stancil, rec
ognizes that the American
flag has been our national
symbol for 244 years, and it
remains a beacon of freedom
wherever it is flown. Since
the Second Continental Con
gress adopted the Stars and
Stripes as our Flag in 1777, it
has stood for freedom, jus
tice, and the resolve of our
Nation.
When Francis Scott Key
saw the American Flag flying
over Fort McHenry in 1814,
he believed that liberty would
triumph. The Flag that in
spired Key to write our Na
tional Anthem still energizes
and emboldens the American
spirit today. As our Nation
faces the challenges of terror
ism and world wars, Old
Glory reminds us that liberty
can prevail over oppression.
Since the first days of our
Republic, Americans have
flown the Flag to show their
pride and appreciation for the
freedoms they enjoy in this
great Nation. Every day,
Americans pledge their alle
giance to the Flag of the
United States of America,
and our troops carry it before
them as they defend the lib
erties for which it stands. Ac
cordingly, Chairman Stancil
has proclaimed June 14,2021
as "Flag Day," and the week
beginning June 13, 2021 as
“National Flag Week”
throughout Pickens County.
On Flag Day and during
National Flag Week, Pickens
County government and the
Daughters of the American
Revolution remember those
in uniform and those who
support these men and
women whose courage and
sacrifice inspire us here at
home. We also remember the
rich history of one of our old
est national symbols and re
flect on our duty to carry our
God-given heritage of free
dom into the future. We en
courage the appropriate
display of the Flag of the
United States of America on
public buildings, businesses
and homes, and such other
appropriate places through
out this week. We call upon
the citizens of Pickens
County to observe with pride
and all due ceremony those
days from Flag Day through
Independence Day, also set
aside by the Congress (89
Stat. 211) as a time to honor
America, to celebrate our
heritage in public gatherings
and activities, and to recite
publicly the Pledge of Alle
giance to the Flag of the
United States of America.

Vendors Azlynn and Shy la brought one of the most pop

The best description of
our wonderful warm Farmers
Market was displayed in the
blue cotton candy happily
consumed by our smaller
customers. The children were
totally immersed in finding
the best way to eat the magi
cal treat. Best of all, is that
this particular treat is being
made by smaller vendors,
Azlynn and Shyla, but cer
tainly enjoyed by customers
of all ages.
Also, for all ages is Vivian
Tritt’s Fancy Fruit Sorbet in
so many delicious flavors
you must go and read the list
yourself. And, never fear, Vi
vian offers her treats in con
tainers to go. Let’s see now...
you could certainly have a
different flavor every day of
the week.
One tends to think that
vegetables and fruit are the
reason for our Farmers Mar
ket. It’s true, but there is so
much more. Zach Henson
continues to load his table
with many choices for your
home made delicious meals
which keeps our market true
to its name. Then the bread
bakers, jelly makers, and the
pork skins creator, Michelle
Winters, have their goodies
to offer. Along with other
produce producers, there is
honey and eggs, including
quail and duck. We even have
meat makers, so your whole
meal is complete.
