Weekly Church Activities
Essential workers topic
at Mountain Light
On Sunday, June 27,
Mountain Light UUC wel
comes Mountain Light Pres
ident Karl Seidman as our
presenter. We as a society
promote success as getting a
college education and a ful
filling and well-paying cor
porate career. We forget that
so much of our population
does not follow that career
path but fills essential needs
without which our society
could not function. Workers
in construction, maintenance,
and manufacturing, for ex
ample, often have less job se
curity and lower pay than
those who sit behind a com
puter in an office. How we
came to where we are and
what we need to do to ad
dress this imbalance will be
discussed.
Mountain Light UUC has
returned to in-person atten
dance following pandemic
protocols. If you would like
to attend, please visit our
website (mluuc.org) for more
information on how we are
operating during the COVID-
19 pandemic or how to join
via Zoom.
Mountain Light UUC,
2502 Tails Creek Road (GA-
282 West), in Ellijay, wel
comes guests of all faiths,
ethnicities, and gender iden
tifications. Our worship serv
ice begins at 10:30 a.m. Join
us at 10 for fellowship.
Blood drives at Mt.
Zion
Mt. Zion Baptist Church
will host a blood drive on
Thursday, July 1, from 10
a.m. until 3 p.m.
Appointments can be
made by visiting www.Red-
CrossBlood.org and entering
the Sponsor Word MtZion-
Jasper, or by calling
1.800.RED.CROSS. A Red
Cross Blood Donor app is
also available to facilitate ap
pointments, provide an elec
tronic donor card, and offer
“Rapid Pass,” a feature that
saves time at check-in on the
day of the drive.
Donating blood not only
saves lives (an average of
three persons per unit of
blood), it is good for your
own health, helping to lower
the risks of heart disease and
cancer. It is also one of the
best and simplest ways to be
like Christ, who gave his
blood for us. According to
Leviticus 17.11, “The life of
the flesh is in the blood.”
Please consider visiting Mt.
Zion to give “the gift of life.”
The church is located at 1036
N. Main in Jasper.

What is
Truth?
By Pastor Asa Dockery
John 18 : 37 - 38, Pilate
therefore said to Him,
"Are You a king then?"
Jesus answered, "You say
rightly that I am a king.
For this cause I was bom,
and for this cause I have
come into the world, that
I should bear witness to
the truth. Everyone who
is of the truth hears My
voice." Pilate said to
Him, "What is truth?" -
NKJV
Have you taken time
to ask yourself, “Where
did I originate?” Every
human understands that
they are the offspring of
their parents, but where
did our soul/conscious
ness originate? According
to Psalm 139 and Jere
miah 1, God knew us be
fore our bodies were
formed within the womb.
There are many people
in the world who believe
that life simply came into
existence without the aid
of a Creator. Think about
that theory for a moment.
Man can make any
thing they can imagine,
but we can’t create life.
We can’t create animals.
We can’t create plant-life.
Men can only plant seeds.
It is God who causes
the seeds to produce liv-

Blind Spots
W e all have our blind spots—literal or
figurative things that we can’t see or
realize about ourselves—and we can’t
see them, because they are, by definition,
hidden from us. Therefore we need people who
will tell us our faults and point out the things
that we just can’t see or accept. Societies and
cultures have blind spots too. Think of how
long many Americans, and most of
“civilization,” defended slavery as an
institution. What our current societal blind
spots are is something that only history will
bear out, but what our personal blind spots are
is something which we can have some control
over. Instead of reacting defensively to
criticism—as most of us do—we should be
quick to accept it, or at least to reflect on it
honestly, and try to ferret out the kernel of
truth that is usually there in even the harshest
criticism. It’s not always wise to be the one
delivering the criticism; most people don’t
accept it without some hard feelings. Unless
we’re perfect, we’re going to be on the
receiving end of criticism, and it is sometimes
the job of people to deliver it, such as
teachers, coaches, and managers. So instead of
reacting defensively, thank the person, and
consider how you might amend your life.
-Christopher Simon
“Whoever heeds life-giving
correction will be at home among
the wise. Those who disregard
discipline despise themselves, but
the one who heeds correction
gains understanding. ”
