John and Helen Szijarto
were married on July 6th,
1951, in Fort Sumner, New
Mexico where John was sta
tioned in the Air Force. The
couple met through friends
and courted through letters.
Helen traveled by bus from
New Jersey, by herself, to
New Mexico to marry John.
The couple moved to
Georgia from New Jersey in
1978. They finally settled in
Jasper, Ga in 1994 where
they have been ever since,
enjoying the views from their
home near Henderson Mtn
Rd. As of January, of this
year John is 89, and Helen is
currently 87. They are both
still very active and in good
health. They said the secret to
such a long, happy marriage
was respect and communica
tion.
Imagine the many adven
tures one person goes
through in 70 years of life,
how wonderful to share those
many adventures together.
The joys, the sorrows, the
failures and triumphs, always
knowing your someone was
there to share it all.

Happy Ramblers by Ann ParLl
Bits & Pieces
This is a handy tip: Clean
your kitchen drain by pour
ing soda and then vinegar in
the drain. Run a little water
and it will clean your drain.
Helpful tips: This friend
of mine used to always say
she gave the waitress a real
good tip.. “Plant your com
early!”
Clean your floors with a
little bit of vinegar in the
water. This cleans and disin
fects the floor. Take clothes
out of the dryer while damp,
hang them up and they won’t
wrinkle.
Making a fast job out of
hunting for a wife: A man
came to see my aunt, brought
her a box of candy and soon
told her he would just go
ahead and state his business.
“I’m here hunting a wife so
will you marry me?” She
replied, “Here’s your candy
and I’m not interested in mar
rying.”
A six-year-old boy rode
up on a mule to check on the
folks at the next farm after
that terrible flu. The little girl
came to the door with stock
ings and a toboggan on. He
said she was so cute that he
fell in love with her on sight
and he stuck with this story
as long as they lived. The
moral is, you can’t fall in
love too soon.
A man came home drink
ing and they didn’t have any
stove wood cut. The kids
were hungry and the wife
told him that he would have
to cut the stove wood. He
tried but just kept hitting all
around without hitting the
stick of wood and the wife
just stood and laughed. The
moral of this is don’t come
home drinking.
A good rule is always to
have at least $10 with you.
Some day you’re gonna need
it.
