McElveen
April 1, 1940 -
June 18, 2021
Melesia, known as Ann,
passed away early Friday the
18th, following a long illness.
She went peacefully in her
sleep at home where she re
sides with her daughter, Jan
ice. Both of her daughters
were at home with her.
Ann loved to dance and
earlier in her life she was in
troduced to a variety of out
door activities, which she
enjoyed.
She is survived by her sis
ter, Marcy Downes of Ball
Ground; two sons, Thomas
B. McElveen and Kenneth R.
McElveen, of San Antonio,
Tx.; two daughters, Cynthia
K. Campbell of Savannah
and Janice M. McElveen of
Jasper; 13 grandkids, three
great-grandkids and five
great-great grandkids, as well
as many nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in
death by her parents, two
brothers, two sons, James L.
McElveen Jr. and Robert W.
McElveen and one grandson,
Anthony T. McElveen, who
was killed in Iraq.
She was dearly loved and
will be missed by all who
knew her. Ann was very
aware of the need for bodies
to further medical research
and therefore made the deci
sion many years ago to do
nate her own body for that
purpose. For this reason,
there is no memorial service
planned at this time. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be
made in her honor to Hospice
organizations and facilities.

Teens who don't leam
time management skills are
at risk of becoming lifelong
procrastinators. And waiting
until the last possible minute
to get things done could
cause problems ranging from
increased stress levels to re
lationship trouble. It's impor
tant to teach your teen how to
manage her time wisely with
out requiring constant re
minders or assistance from
you to get her work done.
High school can be very
busy. But the adult world can
be even busier. It's important
to start teaching your teen
how to manage his time now
— especially why things may
be a little more relaxed with
school not in session. He'll
enjoy immediate benefits
such as:
• Reduced anxiety when
projects are due in school or
test dates are approaching.
• Increased responsibility
and independence.
• Better decision-making
skills.
• More time for family
and friends.
• Better performance at
work and school.
• More opportunities to
relax and unwind.
Teens usually have very
structured schedules. Their
school day and their after
school activities are planned
out for them. As a result,
many of them can’t manage
their time wisely.
Here are some steps you
can take to teach your teen
essential time management
skills:
1. Model good time man
agement habits. If you're al-
Kross Jenks, and Tony Jenks.

Owen Finsted, 92, of Al

ways running late or you
miss a lot of deadlines, your
teen will follow suit. Practice
managing your own time
wisely and show your teen
that you can accomplish the
most important tasks in any
given day.
2. Give your teen time
management tools. Whether
it's a planner that your teen
writes everything in or an app
that manages your teen's
schedule, help your teen find
the tools that will work best
for him. Talk about the im
portance of creating a sched
ule and using lists to
prioritize his time wisely.
3. Encourage your teen
to write down her schedule.
Your teen's time may easily
get taken up with video
games or social media if she's
not careful. Teach her to
schedule her day so she can
set aside time for chores,
homework, and other respon
sibilities.
4. Help your teen priori
tize activities. It's common
for teens to have conflicts in
their schedules. A basketball
game, birthday party, and
church activity may all coin
cide. Talk to your teen about
how to prioritize activities,
based on his values and com
mitments.
5. Encourage your
teenager to develop rou
tines. Encourage your teen to
establish healthy habits, like
doing her chores right after
school. Once she gets into the
routine of doing things in a
certain order, she won't have
to waste time thinking about
what to do next.
6. Avoid nagging. It can
be tempting to nag your teen
or repeat reminders. But,
telling your teen to do his
homework or his chores re
peatedly, reduces his respon
sibility and frustrates you
both. Set rides about your ex
pectations and follow
through with logical conse-

time on his classic cars and
using his engineering and
metal skills, he helped
friends and family with proj
ects.
He is survived by his
quences when necessary.
7. Set limits on electron
ics. Your teen may waste
countless hours on social
media or playing video
games if she's not careful. Es
tablish rides that help her cre
ate healthy habits with her
cellphone and other digital
devices.
8. Encourage him to set
goals. Talk to your teen about
personal goals he wants to
reach. Then, help him iden
tify how much time he'll need
to work on that goal each
day. Whether he wants to ex
ercise for 30 minutes 3 times
each week or decides to

day, June 21, 2021. No serv
ices are planned at this time.
In Their Honor Funeral,
Saturday afternoon each
month, goal setting is a great
way to help him manage his
time.
Encourage your teen to
practice time management
skills. There will be times
that she's going to miscalcu
late how long a project will
take or days when she forgets
a deadline. Help her leam
from those mistakes, and re
member, Rome wasn't built
