Bible Reading Marathon on
courthouse steps July 14th
On July 14 th at 7:14 a.m.
at each county courthouse in
Georgia, there will be a short
reading of the Bible. This is
the 3rd year the interdenomi
national gathering will be
held in Georgia.
In an hour or less the en
tire Bible will be read over
our state. The basis for this
reading is taken from 2
Chronicles 7:14, ‘‘If my peo
ple, who are called by my
name, will humble them
selves, and pray and seek my
face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven, and forgive
their sin and heal their land.”
The Statewide Bible
Reading project was started
in Iowa by Dianne Bentley in
2018. Last year 16 states and
57 countries participated. The
goal this year is to expand the
Bible reading in every time
zone on 7/14.
The Georgia state leader
for the project is Jerri Tuck.
She can be contacted at jer-
rituck40@gmail.com.
The leader for Pickens
county is Kim Echols. She
can be contacted at kime-
cholsO 1 @gmail.com.
In Pickens we will
gather at 6:30 a.m. for fel
lowship time.
Everyone is welcome to
attend this gathering at our
courthouse and we encourage
everyone to share this infor
mation with family and
friends in the area.

If You are the
Son of God
By Pastor Asa Dockery
Luke 4:3-4, And the
devil said to Him, "If You
are the Son of God, com
mand this stone to be
come bread." But Jesus
answered him, saying, "It
is written, 'Man shall not
live by bread alone, but
by every word of God.'" -
NKJV
Acts 1 : 9 - 11, Now
when He had spoken
these things, while they
watched, He was taken
up, and a cloud received
Him out of their sight.
And while they looked
steadfastly toward heaven
as He went up, behold,
two men stood by them in
white apparel, who also
said, "Men of Galilee,
why do you stand gazing
up into heaven? This
same Jesus, who was
taken up from you into
heaven, will so come in
like manner as you saw
Him go into heaven." -
NKJV
Was Jesus really the
Son of God? Is Christian
ity more than just another
religion? I want to give
you some truths to think
about while you consider
the questions I’ve written.
Unlike man’s reli
gions, the God of the
Bible doesn’t expect us to

Being True
to Yourself
“Accept the one whose faith is weak,
without quarreling over disputable
matters.... Each of them should be
fully convinced in their own mind. ”
Romans 14:1,5 NIV
E arly on in The Age of Reason
Thomas Paine tells us what he
believes: “I believe in one God,
and no more; and I hope for happiness
beyond this life.” He goes on to say that
be believes in the equality of man and
that “religious duties consist in doing
justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring
to make our fellow-creatures happy.”
What made The Age of Reason so
controversial was not what Paine
believed in, but rather what he did not
believe: “I do not believe in the creed
professed by the Jewish church, by the
Roman church, by the Greek church...
nor by any church that I know of.”
Despite his clear statement of belief in
God, Paine was—and often still is—
labeled an atheist. But what he was
trying to convey to his readers is the
importance of one’s conscience in the
realm of belief. Infidelity, Paine
contends, “does not consist in
believing, or in disbelieving; it consists
in professing to believe what he does
not believe.” While this may be less
radical today than it was two centuries
ago, it is still common for religions to
require professions of faith, and for
people to be shunned, ostracized, or
otherwise condemned for not believing
in particular articles of faith. Faith can
improve our lives in a variety of ways,
but we should defend the right of
people to believe differently about faith
or God, or to not believe at all, or to
suspend judgement about these
matters. There is something sacred
about the free choice to believe when it
comes to matters of faith and morals.
