To the Editor:
If anyone was hoping to sneak out of town early Friday
and get the jump on their 4th of July weekend in the moun
tains, by 12:30 that ship had sailed. Northbound traffic on
515 was bumper-to-bumper from at least Shottenkirk Ford.
By 10:30 the next morning (Saturday) the jam began well
south of the Racetrack station. What's happened to our quiet
mountain retreat?

To the Editor:
The Fourth of July is a
special day for Horace and
Janell Walker also. It is their
62nd anniversary. They were
married at the home of Bob
and Frances Cagle, Horace’s
sister. Janell wore Coach
Ollis’ wife, Mary Kay’s,
white wedding dress. Her sis
ter, Elise, and Horace’s niece,
Cathy Cagle were Maids of
Honor. John Stevens was best
man.
This July 4th, they and
friends, Carol and Hermon
Painter, went to Boj angles for
breakfast. When they walked
in, what a big surprise.
Rodger and Betty Jenkins
“had a large decorated cake in
the middle of the middle of
the tables. It was beautiful.
The place was foil of friends
and strangers but that did not
stop Betty. Everyone that
wanted cake, got some.
Most of the strangers,
when they left, were not
strangers anymore.
Betty and Roger made
them feel at home in Jasper
just like at grandma’s house.
I bet they will tell every
one they know how friendly
a place Jasper, Ga. is.
Thanks to Betty and
Roger Jenkins.
Janell Walker
To the Editor:
My husband wanted me to
write about the crazy traffic
coming in from Ellijay at the
traffic light on Philadelphia
and 53. Right before Wal-
mart. Why must everyone fly
up to that light. Since we see
it everyday. It’s so dangerous
even with all of the signs and
warning lights. Slow down.
Where in the world are they
going that they have to go
through that light so fast?
I, however, wanted to
write about missions. Re
cently hearing from our Chi
nese missionary friends. Who
have returned to China. I
thought of the plight of the
missions of today. How leav
ing American soil is a jour
ney in itself. I never
experienced poverty until I
lived outside of America. Our
most impoverished people
are not poor. I have seen real
poverty but not inside our
blessed country. I also wit
nessed the attitude toward
missions.
I am not talking about the
group that goes for two
weeks to another country. I
am talking about the ones
that go for years. And give up
the peace, comfort and safety
we all are bom into and take
for granted. Our church
would collect for the church
then collect change for the
missions. We thought it
should be the other way
around. Not making us very
popular however. If you only
knew what it is like to give it
all up to preach in another
country. We had no support
and it was difficult. We al
ways say it was good for us
to endure what we went
through. But we ask that you
be more mindful of those
families and people that ven
ture out into unknown terri
tory.
Remember your comforts
and safety and that is one of
the greatest things that they
must endure over seas. Giv
ing up That peace we have is
great. Never take America for
granted. It’s a priceless land
to live in and may you never
know what it’s like to be
without these precious bene
fits we are bom into. God
bless you and support your
missions and thank God for
their sacrifice. Because it
truly is great. God bless our
beautiful country and all who
dwell within.

To the Editor:
Thanks for your editorial
of June 17, 2021 regarding
the need for sidewalks in
Jasper. I highly commend
your suggestion and hope it
will be taken to heart by the
City of Jasper.
I have been hoping for
years for a sidewalk on Cove
Road as far as possible.

To the Editor:
Taxation without
representation is tyranny
The actions of the PC
School Board, who never
mentioned their desire to
waste hundreds of thousand
of taxpayer dollars before
being elected, and who
would not have received a
majority of votes if they had
been honest in their inten
tions.
The failure of other public
officials to aide the citizens in
stopping this irresponsible
waste of taxpayer money.
And the failure of the judicial
system to protect the people
from this tyranny. All these
are clear evidence of tyranny
that we also see in state and
federal levels of our govern
ment. We are surrounded by
wolves in sheep's clothing,
all working together to sepa
rate us from the herd and de
vour us.
This close to our Inde
pendence Day celebration,
we should take some time
and decide for ourselves: are
we willing to allow tyrants to
dictate our every action, strip
us of our rights and rob us of
our hard earned income. Or is
it time to band together and
say "No More" and force the
tyrants to retreat.
It is just as clear today as
it was in 1776 that if we do
not stand together in this
cause, then we will either
hang separately or live as a
herd of domesticated ani
mals; kept close for the pur
pose of feeding our masters.
To anyone involved with
government in any way: it's
past time for you to get off
the safe and comfortable
fence your sitting on and
make a decision. Are you
going to do what is right in
spite of the technicalities and
rules that protect tyrants, and
live up to the oaths and
pledges you gave to serve the
people who elected you?
Time to stand up and do
the hard things. Lead, follow
or get out of the way.

Farmers market keeps growing this summer
Our market had a wonder
ful and cooler day to do busi
ness. Setting up in the park
lining the walkway were
many happy vendors. It was
a peaceful, gentle, and happy
morning. Knowing it’s the
Independence Day weekend
brightened everyone’s mood.
Vivian Tritt always has
three delicious sorbets for
immediate consumption.
This week she brought water
melon. How appropriate for
the holiday. She always has
several choices of sorbet to
take home; the list is long, so
it’s best if you go and read it
and drool yourself.
There was much to be
found including chocolate
dipped macaroons. Yum. The
bakers were really showing
off their goods. Zach Hen
son’s table was loaded with
garden goodness. There is
lots of garlic and squash
available now from more
than one vendor.
Our lady from Ellijay,
brought her bundles of laven
der and many flowers from
her garden so customers
could make their own bou
quets. She also had hy
drangeas in blue, pink, and
white, plus some planted
containers. The plant adop
tion tent had many plant
choices including a tall grass.
Camille had her mixed con
tainer pots of colorful plants.
All three had Rose of Sharon
plants. Each a different color.
Next weekend (and
Wednesday) the market will
be back to the usual spot, the
Park n’ Ride parking lot
across from the Veteran’s
Memorial at Lee Newton
Park.
The market is sponsored
by the Pickens County Mas
ter Gardeners and all the cus
tomers are appreciated for
stopping by. Be sure to go by
on Wednesday between 11
and 2 for our extra Summer
market.
