MOUNTAINSIDE
From My Desk to Your Home-
I hope you are staying well and finding some joy as summer turns to fall.
Fall is a season so full of promise - something all of us can cling to after a
year and a half of global pandemic living. We’re all hoping for the best, hold
ing tight for a feeling of normalcy.
Some of us thought we were getting back to some semblance of normalcy
at the start of summer. We looked forward to the prospect of being able
to spend time together, to take longawaited vacations and to get our fam
ilies and communities ready for another school year.
We knew the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t over, but we thought people
getting vaccinated and continuing to follow the 3Ws (wearing our masks,
washing our hands and watching our distance) would make it less of a
threat.
Then, as we started seeing COVID-19 numbers rising across the state, we
experienced an unwanted feeling of deja vu.While our team of healthcare
providers is strong, committed and ready to help the people in our com
munity, it’s painful to see people struggle with COVID-19.
We don’t want anyone in our community to get sick with COVID-19.
Please do all you can to protect yourselves, your families and your com-
munities. There are important actions you can take now:
• If you aren’t vaccinated, please get the vaccine as soon as possible. It is
our best protection against COVID-19. Nearly all of the patients we see in
the hospital with COVID-19 are unvaccinated. While there have been a few
cases of the disease breaking through the vaccine, most of these have been
asymptomatic or mild cases of the illness. Simply put, if you get the COVID-
19 vaccine, you will not be as sick as an unvaccinated person who contracts
COVID-19.
• If you are vaccinated, talk to family, friends and neighbors who are on
the fence about the vaccine. Share your experience and answer their ques
tions. Refer them to reputable sources about the vaccine, including their
physician or local pharmacist, the Centers for Disease Control and Pre
vention or Piedmont Healthcare at www.piedmont.org/covid-19/vaccine.
• Continue to practice the 3Ws of wearing a mask, washing your hands
and watching your distance.
We are all looking forward to putting the COVID-19 pandemic in the
rearview mirror, but we just aren’t quite there yet.The only way we’ll get
there is by working together, doing all we can to protect ourselves and
each other. We remain in this together.
Always,
lUiLiy
