130 pet owners get low cost spay/neuter certificates
BePaws We Care
announces Bissell
Pet Foundation
grant
Submitted by BePaws
Be-Paws We Care (BPWC)
is proud to announce we have
received a spay/neuter grant
from @BISSELL Pet Founda
tion. Out of BISSELL Pet
Foundation's partner network
of over 5,000 shelters and res
cues, we're so excited that we
were chosen to receive their
support. This grant will impact
118 pets in our community and
every single pet
spayed/neutered makes a huge
impact on pet overpopulation
in our community. Thank you
BISSELL Pet Foundation for
all you do.
BPWC would like to thank
the Pickens Pet parents of 130
dogs and cats that came to our
certificate sale for Low Cost
Spay and Neuter (SNIP -
Spay-Neuter Initiative Pick
ens) this past Saturday, Octo
ber 2. They were able to
purchase certificates for $35
for cats and $45 for dogs that
are redeemable at “All the
Fixin’s” (former Georgia Ani
mal Project) in Ball Ground.
Additional discount was allo
cated for those that qualify for
low income, military and sen
ior. This certificate sale was
made possible because of the
BISSELL Pet Foundation
grant and the wonderful sup
port of our community. Thank
you.
With so many pets aban
doned each year, proactive
spay and neuter procedures ad
dress the root cause of animal
overpopulation by preventing
unplanned and unwanted
births, freeing up shelter space
for pets in need, and saving
pets from potential abandon
ment. Be part of the solution,
spay and neuter your pets.
Stay tuned.... Based on the
availability of funds, we hope
to have another certificate sale
before year end. Follow us on
Facebook (https://www.face-
book.com/bepaws.wecare/)
and check the Pickens
Progress where it will be
posted.
If you would like to volun
teer at the certificate sales
email us at bepawswe-
carel9@gmail.com. Other
Volunteer opportunities with
our Pickens Community Cat
Program and through the Pick
ens County Shelter are avail
able as well. You can also

by sending a donation to BE-

Family fun at Thrift Store’s
spooktackular event Oct. 21
By Suellen Reitz
Special Events Coordinator
Halloween is always a special time for fun and
frivolity with the festive decorations and cos
tumes donned by kids of all ages. Pickens Com
munity Thrift Store will be offering an opportu
nity to join the fun on October 21 from 5-8:00
p.m. with their “Bewitching Hours Spooktacular
Night Time Sale.
This night time opening will be different
from others. It will be a family fun night
from start to finish. Bring the kids in
costume to be part of the store parade
which will start at 5:30. Be sure and
cheer them on as they march down the
aisles listening to spooky tunes. After
wards, there will be a contest for best
costume. Everyone will win a prize, but
best will get a free $20 store credit
coupon!
While shopping for bargains, a big
screen tv will be playing the movie
“Hocus Pocus”. This family friendly
movie starts at 6 to allow time to get the
kids home before bedtime.
We have an extra special door prize this
time. All shoppers get a free ticket with
every $10 spent. You don’t want to miss
the fun... We’ll see you on the 21st!
We have a winner!
Mackena Hillhouse took first place in the Progress Coloring Con
test which appeared in the September 30 edition. Hillhouse won free
ice cream from Lollidrops as a prize.
