Grant Program
On October 6, 2021, Ger

Tree Foundation, Mike Mof
fitt, Nancy Davis and Debbie
Ford, Chair of the Bent Tree
Foundation Grant Program,
had the pleasure to continue
the commitment of the Bent
Tree Foundation Mission by
presenting nine Pickens
County Educators and Ad
ministrators at six6 Pickens
County schools with grants
totaling over $6,000.
The grant funds were
raised through a variety of
fundraising events and the
generous donations of many
Bent Tree residents. Each of
the grants was personally pre
sented to the school adminis
trators and educators for
implementation of their re
spective grants during the
2021-2022 academic year.

funds for grant recipients

entitled: “Wiggle and Learn”;
Jenny Wehunt for her Grant
entitled “Buckets Full of
Rhythm - Drumming
Through COVID”; Georgia
Allen for her grant entitled
“Standing to Learn” and
Suzanne Hardison for “Full
STEAM Ahead with Kinder
garten and First Grade”
funded by Nancy Davis, in
memory of her husband, Dr.
Monte Davis, professor emer
itus at Georgia Institute of
Technology.

Energy assistance program opens
for homebound and elderly Nov. 1
The Low Income Home
Energy Assistance Program
administered by the Georgia
Division of Family and Chil
dren Services will open to the
Homebound and Elderly
households on November 1,
2021. Homebound house
holds are defined as those
households in which every
household member is con
fined to the home because of
medical conditions or disabil
ities. Elderly households are
defined as those households
in which every member is
aged 65 years or older. (If
anyone in the household is
under age 18 and all the other
household members are 65 or
older that household will
meet the definition of Eld
erly).
All households participat
ing in the program must meet
the income criteria; be re
sponsible for paying the cost
of energy for home heating
directly to the supplier; and
be U.S. citizens or aliens ad
mitted to the U.S. for lawful,
permanent residence.
To apply, applicants must
send in their most recent
heating bill, electric bill,
proof of household income,
proof of valid Social Security
Number, proof of citizenship
with a valid picture I.D. and/
or alien status. In addition,
Elderly households must pro
vide proof of age for all
household members.
All Community Service
Centers are closed to the pub
lic because of COVID-19. To
apply for assistance, you
must call the service center in
your county to receive in
structions on how to submit
your documents for your ap
plication.
Assistance will be in the
form of a one-time payment
on behalf of the eligible
household to help offset the
cost of heating their homes.
The checks are issued di
rectly to the home energy
supplier. No checks can be is
sued until North Georgia
Community Action, Inc. re
ceived the funds from the
state of Georgia, Department
of Human Services. Assis
tance is on a “first-come,
first-served” basis, while the
funds last.
Any low-income residents
of the county who feel that
their household meets the
definition of “Homebound”
or “Elderly” should contact
the North Georgia Commu
nity Action, Inc.’s commu
nity service center for their
county of residence begin
ning November 1, 2021 at
8:30 a.m. If you are unable to
get through on the phone
line, please be patient and
keep trying. The Home-
bound/Elderly “priority” is
through November 30, 2021.
You do not have to get on the
list the first day. Keep calling
until you reach someone. Do
not leave messages as they
will not be returned.

Scholarship and Grant recep
tion provided by the Bent
Tree Foundation scheduled
for May 1, 2022, at which
time they will present the ed
ucational impact and/or re
sults of their individual grant
implementation.
In addition, the Bent Tree
Foundation would like to
thank the Bent Tree Founda
tion Grant Review
Committee members and
former educators Tim Long,
Mike Moffit, Susan Duncan,
and Nancy Davis for their
dedication and review of the
2021 grant applications on
behalf of the Bent Tree Foun
dation.
