Truett Thompson
George ‘‘Truett” Thomp
son, Jasper, Georgia, 69,
passed from this life Wednes
day, October 20, 2021, after
a 2- year battle with strokes
and Parkinson’s Disease.
He was bom July 20, 1952
and was named after his fa
ther and his father’s WWII
Army buddy, Truett Black-
well. Known for his Super
Bee, #68 loved playing foot
ball for the Yellow Jackets,
even surviving Parker’s Par
adise, the most colorful if not
the most comfortable football
camp in the Altamaha
Swamp, and graduated from
Wayne County High School
in 1971. Truett spent his
work and hobby life as a car
penter and home builder, a
passion he learned from an
early age from his father,
with his breeches nailed to
the roofs of the houses his fa
ther was building. He loved
hunting and fishing on the
Altamaha River Basin and
cheered on his Dawgs every
fall without fail. He was a de
voted father attending dance
recitals, baton contests, soc
cer games, and many football
games, cheering louder for
his majorettes at halftime
than the team during the
game. After growing up in
the Anderson Drive Baptist
Church, Truett later found a
church family at Unity
Church of God. His retire
ment years were spent in the
north Georgia mountains,
spoiling his grands and help
ing his girls.
He is loved and greatly
missed by his wife of 44
years, Vickie Bacon Thomp
son; his daughters, Jereme
and Richard Breedlove, with
grands, Ansley, Hadley, and
Brooks of Watkinsville, Ga,
and Allison and Brian Neal,
with grands, Ryley and Cole-
ton of Jasper, Ga. His sisters
are Betty (James) Moxley
and Lisa (Dale) Lanham both
of Jesup, Ga. His sisters-in-
law are Molly (Greg) Whet-
zel of Williamsburg, Va. and
Livia (Michael) McMahon of
Savannah, Ga. Numerous
nieces and nephews will miss
his unguarded humor at fam
ily gatherings. His beloved
Bassadore, Beau, is lost with
out him.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, George
“Buck” and Eunice Thomp
son, and sister, Mona
Thompson.
A great part ofTruett’s life
was enjoying time with hunt
ing and fishing buddies,
Danny and Denise Griffis,
Bill and Sandy Thurmon, Bill
and Nell Tyre, and growing
up as a part of the Anderson
Drive Gang. His last year
was made much richer by
special friends and devoted
caregiver Dana Strickland
Dunsmore.
Celebration of Life was
held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oc
tober 25, 2021 at Rinehart
and Sons Funeral Home
Chapel with Pastor George
Moxley officiating. A private
interment will be held by his
family.
Memorials are requested

Dave Moore
U.S. Veteran

PhD., 89, passed away sud
denly and peacefully on 18
Oct. 2021 at Mountainside
Hospital, Jasper, Georgia, a
few short weeks before his
90th birthday.
Dave was bom at home in
Mount Hope, West Virginia,
in 1931, the second child and
only son of parents Leslie
Dari Moore and Bonnie Wil
son Moore.
He graduated from Mor
gantown High School and re
ceived his Bachelor of
Science degree in Chemistry
from West Virginia Univer
sity. Dave served his country
during the Korean War in the
US Army Corp of Engineers.
He won an Army $1,500
scholarship, which paid full
tuition to the University of
Akron, Ohio, where he ac
quired his Master’s degree in
Polymer Chemistry. Purdue
University awarded Dave his
Doctorate in Polymer and Or
ganic Chemistry in 1959, and
years later, he attended Har
vard University’s Masters for
Executives program and
achieved a Masters in Busi
ness Administration.
He met Janet Beach on
campus in Akron, and they
married in 1956. Devoted to
each other over 65 years,
their union brought four chil
dren. Surviving Dave is his
beloved wife, Jan, and chil
dren, Sheryl Moore (Jasper,
GA), Jeff Moore (wife
Catherine Cortright, Mari
etta, GA), Amy Nesbit (hus
band Scott, Land O’ Lakes,
FL), and David Moore (wife
Danah, Jasper, GA), and
three grandchildren: Heather
Nesbit (Miami, FL), Robert
Nesbit (wife Catherine, Cy
press, TX), and Amber
Moore (Jasper, GA). Also

and other extended family
members.
Dr. Moore had a success-
fid 30-year career highlighted
with directing technology for
the world’s leading chemical
companies specializing in
creating remedies for envi
ronmental problems, serving
as a Group Vice President
heading all chemical opera
tions, Director of a Fortune
300 chemical company, a VP
and Director of a Fortune 50
company, and President of
Interchem Corp. After In-
terchem sold, Dave “retired”
to write, authoring four
books, and lecturing. In
1997, Dave and Jan bought
mountain property in Jasper,
where he designed and built
their forever home, cut trails
through the forest, built a
platform over the wondrous
waterfalls, and spent the last
24 years of his life.
Dave had a lifelong inter
est in religious activities,
taught Sunday school for
over 20 years, and practiced
Christianity throughout his
business career. His interests
included reading religious
works, writing, and lecturing
on these subjects. He enjoyed
numerous spiritual journeys
to many parts of the world,
including Jerusalem, Easter
Island, and Egypt. Pursuing
these interests and once an
avid golfer and a Pro-Am
Golf Tournaments winner,
his golf game deteriorated
beyond recognition.
Dave’s parents, stepfather
Ivan C. Owens, stepmother
Helen Beck Moore, his only
sibling, Eileen Hayhurst, and
her husband, Russell, many
extended family members
and ancestors predeceased
him.
As a whole-body donor,
the Genesis Legacy Founda
tion compassionately trans
ported Dave to Memphis,
Tennessee, where he is par
ticipating in essential medical
research and helping train
medical professionals from
around the world at the Med
ical Education & Research
Institute (MERI). Once he
completes his participation
and his ashes return, the fam

celebration of his life at
home, scattering his ashes in
the waterfalls on the property
he loved so much.

Orville Johnson
October 22, 1925 -
October 22, 2021
U.S. Veteran
Today we celebrate the
life of our Daddy, Pop, Pop-
pop, Orville "Chip" Johnson.
He was the beloved father of
Josie, Jaime, and Chris, who
he proudly raised with beau
tiful Marion, his Muzz, who
was the love of his life from
the moment he laid eyes on
her as a teenager, until he left
this earth and stepped back
into her arms on October 22,
2021, so they could celebrate
his 96th birthday together.
Our Poppop was the Sun
day caller, fishing partner,
birthday card sender, article
sharer, and chief storyteller to
his grandchildren, Ried, Bar
ton, Keeley, Kenny, and to
his great-grandchildren Zach,
Holden, Gavin, Izzy,
Annabelle, Madeline, Drew,
and Duncan. He was the
adopted father and grandfa
ther of Margo, Steven, Leigh,
and Alex, who he teased and
loved as if they were his own.
We were awed by his stories
and will tell our grandchil
dren and great-grandchildren
the one about young Chip
standing at a fence near his
home in New Jersey on May
6, 1937 where he was witness
to the historic explosion of
the Hindenburg at the Lake-
hurst Naval Air Station.
Chip was the second
youngest of seven and is sur
vived by his youngest sister,
Vema Sprinkle, who will
miss her brother's calls and
birthday cards. He loved to
chat with his siblings and
kept up with many of his
nieces and nephews, includ
ing visiting one of his
nephews on a warship in Ok
inawa when he was there
during World War II. Chip
was very proud of his service
in the United States Army
Corps during World War II.
He joined when he was 18
and served as a tail gunner
until the war ended. When he
returned home from World
War II, he attended college
and received his degree with
the support of the GI Bill.
Education was important to
Chip, and he helped many
students reach their educa
tional goals by establishing
the HC Johnson Memorial
Scholarship Fund in honor of
his father, who was an ele
mentary school principal.
Chip remembered so
many of us, that his bank cal
endars just overflowed with
birthday and anniversary re
minders. Each year we all re
ceived a bank calendar of our
own filled out with birthdays
and anniversaries, along with
a gentle reminder from him
that family is what matters.
Don't worry, Pop, we will
stay in touch.
Cagle Funeral Home is
honored to serve the Johnson
family.
