Healthy tips for Diabetes
Awareness Month
Provided by the Good
Samaritan Health &
Wellness Center
November is a time to
take stock and be thankful
for what we have in our
lives. It is also a time to raise
awareness about a disease
that more than 463 million
people live with every day—
Diabetes.
If you or a loved one has
been diagnosed with dia
betes, Good Samaritan
Health & Wellness Center is
here to support you and help
you manage your symp
toms. Diabetes doesn't
have to stop you from enjoy
ing life's pleasures. Coming
to terms with your diagnosis
is a process, but diabetes can
be managed. Your diabetes
journey involves being emo
tionally strong and taking
charge of your physical and
emotional health. It is never
simple, but these tips can
help you gain the strength
and skills you need. Even if
you have not received a Di
abetes diagnosis, these tips
are preventative and can
help you stay healthy!
Make Health Food
Choices
Knowing what you can
and cannot eat can be con
fusing, but it doesn't have to
be. It's all about choices-
choosing vegetables without
added salt, choosing lean
meats such as fish and
chicken, and avoiding sug
ary drinks like soda. Seem
ingly small choices can
make a big difference!
Stay Active
Getting regular exercise
is an important part of dia
betes management. You
don't have to run a
marathon. Whatever your
fitness level think of ways
you can be more active. Lit
tle changes, such as taking
the stairs instead of the ele
vator, parking your car far
ther away from the door
when going to the store, or
even playing outside with
your kids or grandkids.
Every extra step can help!
Take Your Medication
It is not uncommon for
patients who are given a di
abetes diagnosis to be pre
scribed medications. Taking
medication means following
the day-to-day prescribed
treatment at the right time,
dose, and frequency for the
require length of time. It
also means you are follow
ing the treatment plan to
help you avoid complica
tions and stay healthy.
If you are having any
side effects with the medica
tion, or if it is affecting your
quality of life, let your pri
mary care provider know.
Make Routine
Appointments with Your
Healthcare Provider
When you receive a Dia
betes diagnosis, it is impor
tant to regularly schedule
appointments with your pri
mary care provider. Your
provider is there to help
you! It is important to dis
cuss your experiences, con
cerns, and ask questions! To
schedule an appointment
with one of our excellent
providers call 706-253-
4673! We'd love to help you.
Every patient that comes to
Good Samaritan this month
can enter to win a FitBit, t-
shirt, Kroger Gift Card,
lunch box, water bottle, and
more.
