70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION FOR BALL GROUND (ANETSA-GA-DA) GARDEN CLUB — In 1951 the garden club in Ball Ground was founded. On November 16,
2021 we celebrated 70 years as a club at the Wheeler House in Ball Ground. Amazingly mothers, grandmothers and some charter members attended the celebration. The name Anetsa-
Ga-Da is Cherokee for ‘ball ground’. The club has grown from 12 participants at the first meeting to 53 members today. In the past year we have gained our 501(3)c status so tax-free con
tributions are accepted. One of the main accomplishments of the club has been the development of a one city square block
botanical garden in downtown Ball Ground. The club sponsors a plant sale and festival at the botanical garden each spring.
We are a proud member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., the Garden Club of Georgia and the Laurel District Garden Clubs.

This annual event cele

hosted by the Moravian mis

western-style school (spon

Cherokee kids from 1800
until 1835. It is likely the
missionaries were hosting the
first large Christmas celebra

Moravians at the Springplace
Mission recorded that their

the most well-attended serv

tional gifts were often paper
scrolls with beautifully
scripted bible verses inside a
painted wreath border, and a
small candle for each service
attendee.
A traditional Moravian
Christmas is often accompa
nied by a “Lovefeast” and
“Singstunde” wherein the
merriment was singing, pray
ing, and the sharing of food
and drink. To honor this prac
tice, we will also be serving
a traditional holiday snack,
spiced apple cider and Mora
vian ginger cookies from our
two-story log cabin, the Vann
Kitchen/Workhouse exhibit.
For the safety of all our
volunteers and other guests,
we do request that all guests
able to do so please wear
proper masks covering the
nose and mouth. This is a
well-attended event (as many
as 400 guests a night) and the
Vann House has limited
space inside making for a
very close event. For guests
who would like a little more
elbow room but still want to
enjoy the holiday season, we
have just the thing.
From December 9th
through the 24th, guests can
tour the Vann House ad

many ornaments in between.
