Caroline Mulllins passes to Bella Hopkins on the Nettes fast break.
Nettes lose to Calhoun;
take down rival Bobcats
The Nettes played their first home
game of the season vs. 4-1 Calhoun.
The Lady Jackets proved to be a
tough test, downing the Nettes 61 -46.
The contest was close in the first
quarter with the Lady Jackets edging
our ladies 15-12. The Nettes would
briefly take the lead 19-18 before Cal
houn rattled off 17 straight points.
Though the Nettes won the second
half by one, the spread was too large
to overcome.
Bella Hopkins continued her solid
offensive play by contributing 18
points. Amanda Nelson added 12, and
Carmyn Mullins 8.

Four players score
double digits in rivalry game
The weekend proved better for the
Nettes on their trip up 515 to Gilmer.
A 55-49 win over the Lady Bobcats
made it two straight over the local
rival.
Caroline Mullins was back in ac
tion after missing the Calhoun game
with an injury and her offensive and
defensive play helped push the Drag-
onettes on top in the road game.

Dragons open region
play this week
Dragons lose pair
of games
Team 2-3
on the season
Dragons lose pair. The first
game on the newly designed floor
at PHS was not without some ex
citement. An enthusiastic student
section and good crowd showed
up for the tip-off of the 2021-2022
home season.
The Pickens Dragons lost to
North Murray 44-39. Cold shoot
ing by the Dragons led to their de
feat. The Dragons shot 32% from
the field while shooting 33% from
the foul line. The Dragon defense
forced 21 turnovers but they could
not take advantage of a great de
fensive effort.
Leading scorers for the Drag
ons were Jaden Stewart with 14
points and Luke Rogers with 12
points. The loss drops the Dragons
to 2-2 on the season.
The Dragons also lost to
Gilmer by a score of 66-56. Costly
turnovers led to an early deficit
which the Dragons nearly over
came. Once again the defense
forced multiple turnovers but fail
ure to convert hurt the Dragons.
The Dragons shot 39% from the
field while forcing 19 turnovers on
defense.
The Dragons had a quartet of
players in double figures. Luke
Rogers had 14 points followed by
Camden Dunn 13, Kayden Hamp
ton 12 and Jaden Stewart with 10.
The Dragons fall to 2-3 on the
season. They will open region play
on the road this week at Cedar-
town and will return home on Fri
day to face Central Carrollton in
their second home game.

Again?
After Alabama (12-
1) defeated Georgia
(12-1) in the SEC
Championship Game
by a 41-24 margin, I
could not help but be
reminded of the old
cartoon “The Adven
tures of Rocky and
Bullwinkle.”
Imagine if you will.
Rocket “Rocky” J.
Squirrel and Bullwin
kle J. Moose engaged
in their usual banter.
Bullwinkle ex
claims, “Hey Rocky,
watch me pull out a
win against Alabama.”
“Again? That trick
never works,” replies a
befuddled Rocky.
And so it was for the
seventh consecutive
meeting, the Crimson
Tide wins over Geor
gia.
Bama’s game plan
was simple yet effec
tive.
On offense, block
the Bulldogs’ vaulted
defensive front four
and front seven just
long enough for soph
omore quarterback and
Heisman favorite
Bryce Young to release
the football and ex
pose UGA’s relatively
untested secondary.
On defense, contain
Georgia’s rushing at
tack just enough to
place the Dawgs’ fate
on the arm of quarter
back Stetson Bennett
who threw two inter
ceptions again versus
the Tide.
Both SEC teams
reached the College
Football Playoff
though. Top ranked
Alabama faces #4
Cincinnati at 3:30 p.m.
in the Cotton Bowl on
December 31st, and
third ranked Georgia
gets #2 Michigan in
the Orange Bowl at
7:30 p.m.
