PAGE 10A PICKENS COUNTY PROGRESS THURSDAY. MARCH 3. 2022 Continued From 1A List some people do have a hangar plus a storage unit, or a hangar, storage unit, and box hangar. The storage units are small additions located at the end of each building and the box hangars are large build ings separate from the regular T-hangars. It should also be noted that there are no re strictions on how many units someone can hold. Another point of con tention among pilots was the issue of sub-leasing. Cur rently there are no rules against sub-leasing, accord ing to section 11 of the T- Hanger/Storage leasing agreement. The county has built 46 hangers in the last three years, with 27 of those com pleted in December 2021 and all hangars are full. The cur rent waitlist has 13 people on it in line for hangars and one person waiting for a box hangar. There have also been questions about people find ing ways to cut in line for hangars as well, but the Pick ens County Government Air port Administration secretary found no evidence of this. If you look at the hangar list you will notice differ ences in price across different buildings. The factors that af fect this are size of the hangars as well as the condi tion and age of the unit. Each T-hangar costs between $330 and $400 per month, while box hangars ran $800 per month. One oddity are the El- hangars. These are land- leased hangars, where someone owns the building and leases the land for a pe riod of time. I con tacted the manufacturer, but it refuses to honor its war ranty. What can I do? Consumer Ed says: The first thing you want to do is re-read your warranty to find out exactly what is cov ered and who is offering the warranty. A manufacturer's warranty is a promise that the company stands behind the representations it has made about the product and that it will correct certain problems — often through repair, re placement or refund. Impor tantly, you’ll want to review the warranty for any dis claimers and determine if specific parts of the tractor or specific repairs aren’t listed, in which case the specific issue may not be covered under the warranty. Manufac turer warranties usually cover problems that arise from de fective parts or product fail ure in terms of design, materials, and workmanship; the warranties usually do not cover wear and tear or de fects caused by abuse or mis use. That being said, a warran tor must adhere to the lan guage of a warranty provided, and any dis claimers must be made clearly and conspicuously. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations, a warranty must disclose, among other things, what the warrantor will do if the product has a defect, mal function, or fails to comply with the warranty; the dura tion of the warranty; and any limitations on relief. The lan guage must be written “clearly and conspicuously.” You can find more informa tion about the FTC’s guid ance on warranties at consumer, ftc .gov/articles/war ranties. Below are some sugges tions for handling a dispute with your warrantor: Review your warranty and determine if the particular issue is still covered by the warranty. Make sure to keep all receipts and other paper work associated with the pur chase. Look to the warranty for what your options are for in formal dispute resolution. You will have to follow the procedures offered by the warrantor before pursuing a legal remedy. Contact the retailer from whom you purchased the product to inquire about pos sible warranty resolutions. Contact your credit card company to see about a po tential chargeback. If you believe the manu facturer failed to comply with the terms of the warranty, you can submit a complaint to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Divi sion, the FTC, and/or consult with a private attorney about possibly suing for breach of warranty.
