Zion Through its direct partnership with an amazing family of ninety-plus church planting missionaries and ministries, Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Jasper has a close connection with what is happening in the Ukraine, and throughout eastern Europe and the world. As an Independent Baptist Church, the Great Commission of Jesus Christ is our mission state ment, that we are to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” Following the New Testament model of cross cultural church planting, we invest, through monthly financial giv ing and prayer support, in the witness and ministry of missionaries in dozens of nations. Missionaries actually present their ministries in person in serv ices and events at Mt. Zion, and newsletters (also known as prayer letters) of their activities are shared every week by the pastor. Among those we have supported for many years are John and Amy Sullivan, missionaries to the field of Ukraine and directors of Mission 823, a ministry focused on serving at risk youth in East- Shawn Sullivan, director of Mission 823, a missionary ministry supported by Mt. Trust Him to do some extraordinary things in your ordinary life. He is the same God we read about in the bible and He can do now what He did back them. Read in Hebrews chapter 11. It's called the faith chapter in the bible and all the heroes of faith are listed there and all God did through them. Read and be encouraged. Just ordinary men and women trusting God to do the impossible in most cases. When God speaks to your spirit and you pray until you get the assur ance that this is God's will. Go for it. There is nothing or nobody that can stop God will. He is always faithful to do exceedingly abun dantly above all that you can ask or even think. The Bible says without faith it is impossible to please God. Dr. Stanley taught me to obey God and trust Him with all the conse quences. It works every time. If He's asked you to do something and it's ac cording to His will it will happen. Just obey. Don't be afraid just trust God and move for ward. He will show you the way. Praise His name. He's faithful. Who is Counting? T he philosopher John Stuart Mill claimed that we should act in such a way as to maximize happiness (and minimize pain and suffering), and not just our own, but the pleasure and pain of everyone who might be affected by our actions. This means that we should try to predict the effects of our actions ahead of time, and to count ourselves in the equation, but not count ourselves any more than we count others. At times we may have to sacrifice our own happiness if we know that doing so will enhance the happiness of others or spare them pain. A similar type of calculation is often done in relationships, when we ask ourselves if we are getting as much out of the relationship as we are putting into it, or if the other person is contributing as much as we are. The idea that in love we shouldn’t be tallying up costs and benefits is romantic, and perhaps ideally, we shouldn’t, but it’s tempting to agree with the founder of Utilitarianism, Jeremy Bentham, when he said that “Men calculate, some with less exactness, indeed, some with more; but all men calculate.” The fact that we all calculate may simply reflect that we all have an innate sense of fairness. We all know the feeling of being taken advantage of, when we feel that we put in more than others or received less. But perhaps we should try to calculate less, or at least feel good about putting in more and receiving less. For it is in giving that we receive, and those who give the most of themselves are invariably the happiest. “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NIV - Christopher Simon Cornerstone Church of Jasper GA 140 Cornerstone Dr., Jasper, GA 9:30 A.M.
