defensive line, Sidney Shorter and the other defenders
shut down a disciplined offense. Strong play kept a
clean sheet for Lowrie and a goal by Jose Sanchez had
the team up 1-0 at halftime.
The second half brought rain and three Northwest
goals, while the Dragons’ offense was effectively sti
fled. Pickens’ unbeaten streak ended with a final score
of 3-1, which makes them 2-1 in region play and 9-1-
2 on the season.
Assistant Coach Jimmy Gibson said, “We are very
proud of our team's performance. It was a very evenly
matched game. We were able to match possession time,
and created several opportunities with 12 shots on goal.
Keeper Jack Lowrie saved 10 of the opponents’ shots
on goal. These young men are taking what they learned
from this game and are focused on continuing to im
prove as a team.”
Despite the loss, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution s
week six boys soccer rankings have the Dragons ranked
fifth in the state in 4A. Rankings were updated March
17.
The girls’ varsity team lost to a potent Lady Bruins
squad. In spite of a courageous effort by the Dragons,
the final was 10-0, making them 5-6 on the season and
1 -2 in region play.
The varsity teams have four games left in the regular
season, one away March 22 at Central, and the final
three: March 25, 29 and 31 at Dragon Stadium. March
