Experience Easter at Fellowship Presbyterian
The excitement is palpable. “My Savior’s
Love,” an offering to God by the Chancel Choir,
launched Holy Week here in Jasper at Fellowship
Presbyterian Church, ECO. This offering cre
atively combined familiar hymns and favorite
bines to vividly illustrate the trials and the celebra
tion of Holy Week at the time of Christ and in
2022. Among our guests for worship last Sunday,
we again welcomed the ladies from Ruth House
women’s shelter for addiction recovery.
A generous luncheon immediately followed the
worship service. Afterward we were all moved by
the witness of Michael and Karen Vincent who in
troduced us to their ministry at Casa de Abby, a
shelter and home in Honduras for very young girls
who have been physically and emotionally abused.
You still have several opporbinities this week
to experience all the drama and then celebrate
Christ’s resurrection. This astonishing week of
events, the most important in the Christian calen
dar, happened in Jerusalem so long ago but are
equally powerful for us all today. Come be a part
of recalling Maundy Thursday, when Christ shared
the first Communion with His disciples at their
Last Supper. This year FPC sharing with the entire
Pickens County community a Prayer Vigil in our
sancbiary on Bent Tree Drive. The vigil will begin
at 7:00 am on Thursday, April 14 and lead up to
the Maundy Thursday service at 5:30 pm. Please
come pray and meditate.
Easter Sunday - Everyone is invited to come to
our Sunrise service in partnership with Mountain
View Alliance Church. The setting will be at 7 a.m.
under the pavilion overlooking Lake Tamarack in
Bent Tree community. Together we will experience
the early morning hours when Mary Madeline and
other women found Christ’s tomb empty. His res
urrection has changed history. Our traditional
Easter worship service at FPC will be at 10 a.m.
in our sancbiary following Bible Study classes for
adults and children at 9 a.m.
All of us at Fellowship Presbyterian extend to
you a personal invitation and a warm greeting.
Come see what God is doing at FPC. You will find
us at 389 Bent Tree Drive on your left just off
Cove Road in Jasper. Ring us at 770-893-2555 or

Seeing through
the darkness
By Rev.
Preston
Jones
Pastor
Jasper First
Baptist
Most of us are blessed
with the sense of sight. It
is an essential part of our
ability to function in our
everyday life. We can use
that sense best with the
presence of light. When
we find ourselves in the
dark we struggle to see.
It is unsettling and we
often desperately search
to find light.
In the gospel of John,
the resurrection story of
Easter begins in darkness.
Mary Magdalene was
moving to the tomb early
that Sunday morning. She
had left home before
dawn, no doubt driven by
a strange sense of ur
gency. I am sure that she
was having to be careful
due to the darkness of the
hour. As she moved to
ward Jesus’ tomb her eyes
had adjusted somewhat to
the darkness, but she
struggled to see when she
got to the tomb. As she
looked for the body of
Jesus she was distressed
because she couldn’t find
him in or around the
tomb. Anxiously she hur
ried away to find some of
Jesus’s followers to help

The love of God is in us
“The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say,
‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is in your midst. ”
— Luke 17:20-21
Once, while in Jerusalem, Jesus healed a man at the pool of
Bethesda who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. Afterwards, the
man was talking to the Jewish authorities and he told them that it was
Jesus who had healed him. For this reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus
and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sab
bath. In reply, one of the things that Jesus said to them was, “I do not
receive honor from men. But I know you, that you do not have the
love of God in you.” John 5:41-42) The question to us is, do we have
the love of God in us? The first and greatest commandment is to love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind. And the second, is to love your neighbor as yourself
(Matthew 22:37-38). When we pray to God, do we pray because we
love Him and we want to draw closer to His love, or do we just pray
when we need some special favor? When we go to church or our place
of worship, do we go there because we want to be closer to His love,
or do we just attend when we need some special favor? When we go
to church or our place of worship, do we go there because we want
to praise and worship God, or are we there because it is expected of
us to be there? When we are kind or generous to others, is it out of
love, or is there usually an ulterior motive for our good works? God
knows all of our needs and desires and He wants us to be dependent
on Him, but more importantly, He wants us to love Him.
