Burnt Mountain Center Plant Sale
nearly sells out in first two hours

O ’Neill and other plant sale shoppers at the April 7 sale. After the success of this sale the center plans for another in the
near future.

The Burnt Mountain Cen
ter hosted a plant sale Thurs
day, April 7 in a successful
effort to raise money.
“It was remarkable how
many people came out and
supported us, whether it was
through donations or coming
here to buy the plants, so we
were very happy with the
outcome, even through the
cold, bad weather,” said Ex
ecutive Director Debbie
Rooker. “We hope to be able
to do it again.”
The sale consisted of dif
ferent varieties of tomato
plants, pepper plants, rhodo
dendrons, flowering bushes,
and daylilies, among other
selections.
According to Rachel El
liot, who led the project, the
sale was an experiment that
turned out very well. The
clients planted and grew over
half of the plants from seeds
that and included tomatoes,
peppers, and herbs. Every
thing else was donated from
local businesses including
Home Depot, both the Ace
Hardwares in Foothills and
Jasper, and Whispering
Springs Nursery.
“Pretty much everything
sold within the first couple
hours,” Elliot said.
With the success of this
sale, the center plans on an
other one selling flowers in
the near future.
Burnt Mountain Center
provides services and sup
port to individuals with dis
abilities and their families.
They are located at 515 Pio
neer Road and can be
