Historian to discuss research technique
with writers group
Chris Feldt will speak at
the Sassafras Literary Ex
change meeting about re
search methods. The
meeting is open to anyone
who would like to attend.
Noted historian, Chris
Feldt is scheduled to speak to
the Sassafras Literary Ex
change on Thursday, April
21. Keenly interested in
local history and a skillful
and diligent researcher, he
has had several interesting
and informing articles
printed in the Pickens County’
Progress. He has also given
several presentations on his
tory locally. The meeting will
be held at 6:30 p.m. at the
Southern Appalachian Folk
School, 68 D. B. Carroll
Street. This is a block past
the Old Jail.
Feldt and his wife moved
here in 2018 from near New
Orleans, which really didn't
seem to be a good place to
raise a family. His wife was
raised in north Georgia
around mountains and
horses. On a visit to visit her
grandmother in Sugar Hill,
they noticed an online ad for
Bent Tree. They just drove
up to the gate and were
stopped by the guard. There
happened to be a real estate
agent there willing to help
them look for a house. The
wife found out that there was
a stable. It was late October
and they made an offer on a
house and moved in in No
vember. They have a three-
year-old daughter.
Feldt soon took a job with
Bent Tree where he is in
volved with communication,
human resources and archi
tectural compliance. His
wife is employed with the
stables. Feldt says he hopes
to retire here.
Feldt received his degree
in business, computing and
legal research from Ferris
University in Big Rapids,
Michigan. That's north of
Grand Rapids. He has lived
in 11 states and spent three-
and-a-half years in Europe.
Living in these various loca
tions has given a deeper in
sight into culture.
In addition to history,
Feldt writes music for piano
and also writes poetry. He
also likes hiking and travel.
Speaking to Sassafras, he
is going to talk about re
search and verification. He
will tell us how he uses what
he refers to as “The Rule of
Nouns” in his research. He
will also talk about some of
the many resources he uses
for his research. Not just for
those interested in writing,
but for anyone who want to
look up anything, this should
be an interesting and inform
ative evening. All are wel
come.
Cagle to discuss his book on the
Federal Road April 28th
The Pickens Historical Society’s next talk will be
given by Bill Cagle April 28th at 7 p.m. at Pendley Creek
Brewing on Main Street, Jasper.
Cagle will discuss his book The Road to Georgia
Marble - How the Federal Road led to discovering Geor
gia s Marble Industry.
The historical group said they hope to encourage a fun
and educational evening of discussion by moving their
talks to a relaxed social setting.
