New faces come to Tater Patch stage
For its next show, The
Cemetery Club by Ivan
Menchell, Tater Patch Play
ers is proud to introduce three
(almost four) actresses who
are new to the Tater Patch
stage:
• September Hoeler has
retired to our area and is
playing Ida. September has
not been on stage since high
school. She's been “on air tal
ent” though, for product pro
motions on TV and trade
shows, so she's not afraid to
“act” in public.
She auditioned here when
she wanted to get outside her
comfort zone and says she's
now got the acting “bug”.
She did see Tater Patch's
last show, Wild Women of
Winedale, and looks forward
to entertaining her audience
as much as she was delighted
as a spectator.
• Nancy Martin plays Lu
cille. She's a very experi
enced actor and has
performed in several South
American countries, as well
as doing many shows in
Naples, Florida. She still
lives part time in Florida and
owns her own business there.
She heard about Tater Patch
while working in Ellijay and
auditioned.
When not on stage, she
enjoys hiking in the moun
tains. We are delighted that
she brings her theater experi
ence and enthusiasm here.
• Lisa Spirko is making
her debut in a play. She did
have a lot of onstage experi-

ence with the “Mad Cow-
ford” Improv group in Jack
sonville. She, her husband,
and two cats have moved to
Ellijay, where she still works
from home.
In her free time she's
learning to play bass guitar
and plays chess online with
her brother. She found Tater
Patch Players on its website,
auditioned and will be play
ing the part of Doris.
• Monashi Owens is not
completely “new” to our
stage. She played the camera
operator in 2016's The
Kitchen Witches, where al
though she was on stage for
the entire show, she had only
one line.
This time she's playing the
visiting Mildred. A Pickens
County native, she moved to
Atlanta to work shortly after

ATLANTA - Georgia Sec
retary of State Brad Raf
fensperger is referring the
cases of 1,634 people who
tried to register to vote but
could not be verified as U.S.
citizens for investigation by
state and local authorities.
One of the people had
tried to register in Pickens
County, but no other infor
mation is available on the
case here.
The names of those
would-be voters turned up
last month in the first citizen
ship audit of voter rolls in
Georgia history.
Raffensperger blamed
voting rights groups for
many of the attempts by non
citizens to register.
"Attempting to register to
vote while knowing you do
not possess the qualifications
to vote is a felony in Georgia,
a serious one," he said at a
news conference Monday.
"Outside groups that attempt
to help noncitizens register to
vote will face consequences
as well."
Raffensperger backed a
constitutional amendment
state Senate President Pro
Tempore Butch Miller, R-
Gainesville, introduced at the
beginning of this year's leg
islative session to ban non-
U.S. citizens from voting.
On Monday, Raf
fensperger cited a poll show
ing 80% of Georgians sup
port banning noncitizens
from voting.
The Senate Ethics Com
mittee approved Miller's con
stitutional amendment, but it
got no further in the legisla
ture. Opponents argued state
law already prohibits non-
U.S. citizens from voting.
Raffensperger's remarks
on noncitizen voting came on
the same day a lawsuit Fair
Fight Action, a voting rights
group founded by Demo
cratic gubernatorial candidate
Stacey Abrams, went to trial
in federal court.
Cianti Stewart-Reid, exec
utive director of Fair Fight
Action, vowed the trial
would bring to light the diffi
culties individual Georgia
voters face trying to cast bal
lots.
"Since the start of this
lawsuit, we have highlighted
real voters and their chal
lenges because we believe re
porting their experiences to
be one of the most effective
ways of demonstrating the
barriers in Georgia’s elec
tions system," she said. “We
will continue to amplify the
voices of voters at trial."
Raffensperger said he's re
ferring the cases of the peo
ple whose names turned up in
the audit to the State Election
Board, the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation and local dis
trict attorneys.
