rived and spoke with the woman
that owned the car, they saw the
words, “Michael was here lol”
carved into the paint on the car.
She said she didn’t know
who might have done the dam
age. She did not want to press
any charges and just wanted the
incident documented. Deputies
suggested that she get cameras
and make sure to keep her door
locked and secure. A few days
later she reported her car broken
into with things moved around
and the sunglasses port opened.
Nothing was stolen. Photos were
taken of the inside of the vehicle
and detectives were notified of
the incident.

to pass another vehicle
Deputies responded to a call
of a hit and run. When they ar
rived at the accident, they spoke
with the driver who said he had
been hit by another vehicle. The
man said he was driving north
up Burnt Mountain when a car
tried to pass another car and
swerved in front of the driver,
hitting his vehicle. He said the
car that hit him turned around
and drove towards Dawson
County. Deputies could see the
damage to his car where there
was a paint transfer to the driver
side rear passenger door and a
panel missing under the door. A
search for the fleeing vehicle
was issued to surrounding coun
ties.

going missing and possibly
being harmed
Deputies spoke with the dog
owner about his dogs that came
up missing. He said that he al

area including the 200 acres of
hunting land adjacent to the area.
He said that in the past year, four
of his dogs have not returned
home and one of his dogs re
turned with an injury that looked
like it was caused by a bullet
hole. The dog ultimately died
from his injuries. No evidence
could be provided by the dog
owner. The case was forwarded

Man arrested for DUI with
several empty beer cans in
back seat
Deputies stopped a car for an
expired registration. When they
got up to the driver, they could
smell alcohol on his breath, and
he seemed to be intoxicated. The
deputies could also see an open
container of beer in the cup
holder.
The driver admitted to drink
ing three beers when the
deputies asked how much alco
hol he had drank. The driver
agreed to a field sobriety test and
he failed. The driver blew a
0.104 during a breathalyzer test.
The driver said that he had only
had three beers since he woke up
at 10 p.m. but had drank a lot
more alcohol before falling
asleep at 8 p.m. He was arrested
and charged for Driving Under
the Influence and Open Con

mother leaves with juvenile
grandson without permission
A woman reported her young
son to be missing and possibly
kidnapped by her mother (the
child’s grandmother). She said
she did not give permission to
her mother to take the child. She
said that her mother had been
living with them for a few days.
On that day, her mother asked to
be taken to cash her check. The
woman said she would take her
mother when she returned from
a job interview. The woman got
in the shower and when she got,
her child and her mother were
missing. She also told deputies
that her mother had mental
health issues and was mentally
disabled. The mother and young
boy were located and returned
home. The son said he did not
want his grandmother to get lost
and that is why he went with her.
The woman did not wish for the
mother to be arrested but admit

was provided with resources to
get help for her mother.
Suspicious person making re
peated trips to sheriff’s office
later arrested for DUI
Deputies working in the jail
told patrol deputies to be on the
lookout for a suspicious woman
that kept coming into the sher
iff’s office lobby and acting
strangely. The first time she
came into the lobby, she walked
to the phone on the counter,
looked at the phone, and then
walked back out to her car. She
pulled away driving at a high
rate of speed. The second visit,
she asked about getting a gun.
When she was told that she
could not be given a gun, she left
again and took off driving at a
high rate of speed. The third
time she came in, she stood in
the lobby for approximately one
minute before turning around
and leaving again. Deputies
found the woman and pulled her
over. When they got to the dri
ver’s side window to speak with
the woman, they could see the
vehicle was still in drive, and she
only had her foot on the brake.
The deputies told her repeatedly
to put the car in park but she re
fused to do it.
When asked for her license,
she couldn’t find it in her wallet,
however the deputies could see
it in the front of her wallet in the
stack of cards she had. She
seemed to be under the influence
of something, and the deputies
asked her to get out of the car.
She was arrested for Driving
Under the Influence and Tail
Lights Required. The deputies
asked if she had someone that
could come pick up the car so it
didn’t have to be towed, she
gave the deputies a phone num
ber. Deputies called the number
and at the same time could see
they were calling her personal
cell phone.
Woman threatens son with
knife
Deputies went to a house and
spoke with a woman’s son who
told the deputies that he had
been having issues with his
mother for a while, but these is
sues would come and go. He
said the issues were hearing
voices and seeing things that
aren’t there. While deputies were
talking with the son, the mother
came out of the house and said
she was leaving.
Deputies told her that she
couldn’t leave right then, she
went back inside the house and
locked the door. The deputies
spoke with more family mem
bers, deputies found out that the
other woman’s son was the one
that called 911.
The other son said he woke
up at 5 p.m. and heard his
mother yelling. He left his room
and his mother grabbed a pair of
scissors and “came at him” with
them. None of the other family
members heard or saw this hap
pen. Some of the family mem
bers said they tried to get the
woman help, but she is not will
ing to talk to anyone. Since there
was no physical evidence and no
one else saw or heard anything
Increased reports of overdoses involving fentanyl
Atlanta- The Georgia
Department of Public
Health (DPH) Drug Surveil
lance Unit has received in
creased reports of overdoses
due to drugs mixed with
fentanyl, particularly co
caine, methamphetamine,
and counterfeit pills. Over
doses have been reported in
several areas of the state
over the past month.
Between early February
and mid-March, at least 66
emergency department vis
its involved the use of co
caine, methamphetamine,
crack, heroin, pain killers
and cannabis products that
were likely laced with fen
tanyl. Patients described ex
treme reactions to drugs -
one patient reported taking a
Percocet and went unre
sponsive - or patients were
seen for a stimulant over
dose but had a positive re
sponse to naloxone.
Naloxone is administered to
reverse the effects of opioid
overdoses.
Fentanyl is a deadly sub
stance that can be made ille
gally and found in all types
of street drugs, not just opi
oids. It is important to know
that it is possible to have an
opioid overdose from a
stimulant (e.g., cocaine) that
is laced with fentanyl.
Between May 1, 2020
and April 30, 2021, fen-
tanyl-involved overdose
deaths increased 106.2%
compared to the same time
period the previous year.

the patrol car, he was not ar
