A grunge, hard rock/metal
band with roots in Pickens
County and the surrounding
area has been nominated for
five awards with the Interna
tional Singer-Songwriters
Association (ISSA).
Johnathan Pruitt, lead vo
calist, guitarist and song
writer for the group, is a
veteran musician who has
played and toured exten
sively in bands for over 25
years. Pruitt’s most recent
project Say Never, which he
formed around two years ago
with Paul Lawrence, another
Atlanta music scene veteran,
is already attracting attention.
Say Never has been nom
inated for USA Band Single
of the Year for “Here Wait
ing,” and USA Music Video
of the Year for “Here Wait
ing” from ISSA. Pruitt was
nominated for USA Male
Songwriter of the Year, USA
Male Album of the Year, and
USA Emerging Artist of the
Year.
“I don’t even know how it
happened,” Pruitt told the
Progress. “I just got an email
one day saying we’d been
nominated. I really appreci
ate it. It means a lot that peo
ple listen.”
Say Never’s debut album
“Lies!” was released in Octo
ber of 2021. Rich Ward of
Stuck Mojo and Fozzy,
iconic Atlanta-based metal
bands, mixed and produced
“Giving Up” and “Do it
Again;” and Billy Grey, also
of Fozzy, contributes “a blis
tering guitar solo” to the “Do
it Again” track. The first nine
original songs on the album
were recorded and mixed at
the Ledbelly Sound Studios
by Matt Washburn.
