Great American Cleanup
is cleaning up Pickens
Submitted by Keep Pickens
Beautiful
The 2022 Great American
Cleanup (GAC) has been one
of the most productive and
effective cleanups that Keep
Pickens Beautiful has spon
sored. With weekly events
focusing on beautifying
downtown Jasper through
Edible Jasper and roadside
pickups with Pick-Up Pick
ens, we are making a notice
able difference in our county.
The KPB Team extends a
huge ‘Thank You!’ to our
volunteers who have made
this possible.
In addition to affecting
positive change, building
community is a focus of
KPB. We invite everyone to
come join us. Our events and
activities offer something for
all interests. Come lend a
hand, and while improving
our county, you’ll meet new
neighbors who may become
new friends.
KPB has two more events
planned for the 2022 Great
American Cleanup - come be
a part of the fun while also
doing good things.
This weekend, April 23,
join the KPB Team for Earth
Day on Main. This is a com
munity appreciation event to
thank everyone who has
helped to grow KPB through
out the years, and to also in
vite new folks to come learn
more about what we’re up to.
From 12-3, you can enjoy
live music, take home one of
the 100+ tomato, pepper, or
eggplant plants we have to
give away, win the raffle for
one of the fig trees that has
been donated for the event,
and stroll up Main Street with
our new Edible Jasper Self-
Guided Walking Tour map.
An added bonus is that most
businesses on Main Street
have offered special dis
counts for this day only! So
stop by, visit with our team,
volunteers, and friends, pick
up a map, and support our
local businesses while ex
ploring the Edible Jasper gar
dens.
Then be sure to join us for
the final GAC Pick-Up Pick
ens cleanup on Camp Road
on April 30 from 10-12.
We’ll meet at the Junior High
School and will head out
from there. Don’t just com
ment on the roadside trash
you see. Come help us do
something about it.
Keep Pickens Beautiful is
grateful to everyone in the
community who has joined
us and supported us for more
than 30 years. Come make
more history with us.

Jasper Farmers Market report
By Heather Giambra
Lucky day. The rain
passed through and vendors
showed up despite the wet
prediction. Hardy and brave
vendors floated in slowly.
The first being Chef Tony
who will not disappoint his
fans that pre-order their fa
vorites. He was quite alone in
the rain awhile, then Sandy
came, followed by Becky,
whose ever-lovin’ hubby,
Steve, announced on face-
book that she would be there
rain or shine. What? Well,
then, #4 was Ruth, and fi
nally, Jenny, the market man
ager. At least the rain passed
and more vendors and cus
tomers alike came.
It was pleasantly cool with
a light breeze and the birds
decorated the air with their
songs. They sure didn’t care
about the rain. It’s spring,
after all. Big Ridge Farms
came with their beef, pork,
and produce. Jones Family
Farm brought even more
tomato plants than last week.
Ruth Priest has bird feeders
and birdhouses with real
shingled roofs. They are well
built and good size for a
crowd. She also offered dried
apples and candy dishes that
look like bubblegum ma
chines. Real eye-catchers.
Lisa Lacheny, who is Bak
ing To Beat Cancer, had the
cutest Easter treats; dipped
pretzel rods, colorful egg
shaped cookies, and cake
push-ups. Plus, her fabulous,
delicious large cookies.
Everything she offers is well
wrapped and professional
looking. Her baked goods
make great gifts. The QR
code on her products will
teach you more about Sar
coma, or let you make a do
nation, or you can place a
cookie order. When you buy
her cookies, you are giving to
beat cancer.
Although the Pickens
County Master Gardeners
sponsor the Jasper Farmers
Market, they cannot control
the weather. So saying, those
who come to sell or to buy
are tndy appreciated!
PCMGs thank you for com
ing, rain or shine. This Satur
day, April 23rd, we will be
celebrating Earth Day at the
market by giving away tree
seedlings (while supplies
last). And I hear that our
county agent will be doing
the giving, so come get a tree
and meet our CEA Justin Fel-
lenbaum. The FM is located
in the Park-n-Ride parking
lot at Lee Newton Park by
the Veteran’s Memorial and
Chamber of Commerce. The
market opens at 7:30 a.m. for
the early birds and is open
until noon for the rest of us.
