The Perils of Pauline
Have you ever been res
cued by a real life hero?
I wanted to mow my front
lawn before Easter. My hus
band cranked me up and off I
went with him believing I
would adhere to his admon
ishment “not to mow the
bank.” Since I have often
mowed the side of the road, I
thought nothing of it since it
would save hi the trouble of
doing so with the push
mower. So, off I went.
Now, anyone who goes by
our house during the summer
knows it is a common occur
rence to see me out mowing
the lawn, which I love to do.
This time, however, I let my
steed (lawnmower) get too
close to the bottom of the
bank and got stuck. My
omery steed could go neither
forward nor backward no
matter my coaxing.
Well, I had finally re
signed myself to waiting for
my husband’s help when, lo
and behold, I feel a gentle
touch on my shoulder. My
hero on a white horse (truck).
This young man had
passed and saw my peril,
stopped his trusty steed and
came to my rescue. He said
he saw me and thought I was
okay but then decided maybe
I wasn’t. (That could have
been when he saw I couldn’t
get my leg across the saddle
to get off). He got me back
on my wayward steed, gave a
gentle push and away I went,
trying to call my ‘thanks’
over my shoulder. He just got
back on his trusty steed and
rode off into the sunset.
Who said chivalry is dead
in Pickens County? Not me.
