Do you enjoy sewing?
Painting and interior design?
Graphic design? Do you like
to work with other people
and create something?
Are you a person who en
joys seeing their friends and
making new ones? Are you
the world's BEST organizer?
Are you a wiz at web design
and social media? Want to
see live theater without buy
ing a ticket?
If you answered yes to
any of these, we've got a
place for you as part of Tater
Patch Players. You may not
have ever seen a show. You
may not even realize that
Pickens County has had a vi
brant community theater
that's been putting on plays
and musicals since 1977.
We've been at our current
home at 95 Philadelphia
Lane, in Jasper, since 2011,
putting on up to six shows a
year. If you haven't been,
here's a way you can become
part of this busy, diverse
group.
We have retired teachers
that do everything from de
sign and building fascinating
props and masks to washing
the coffee cups. We have en
gineers who build props and
scenery. We have retired
caseworkers who organize
and make stage costumes.
And we have judges, nurses,
construction workers, web
designers and students who
act, direct, do stage lighting
and sweep the lobby.
Why? Well, I asked those
volunteers and to a person
they all said that they love
their fellow volunteers, they
find fun, companionship and
purpose by spending time at
the theater.
Some spend hours each
week, some a couple of hours
on a show night. But every
one is a part of our Tater
Family. COVID separated
everyone for a while, even at
the theater. But we've been
back together making on
stage fun since last year,
gradually re-growing the
number of shows and proj
ects. With this growth, we
want to increase our corps of
the sharing folks who enjoy
making the magic happen.
If you're interested or
have questions, email us
your name and contact info at
taterpatchplayers@gmail.com
and we'll get in touch. Or you
can drop by any Monday be
tween 10 and 2, which is our
regular day and time for "get
ting it done" at 95 Philadel
phia Lane. An excellent way
to try us on for size is to be a
Front of House Volunteer for
our upcoming show, The
Cemetery Club.
The Front of House is
what theater folks call the
lobby and other areas that are
open to the public on show
days and nights. The bonus is
Front of House Volunteers
get to sit in one of the unoc
cupied seats and watch the
show.
Actually if you're an
usher, you are required to be
in the theater for the whole
show, to help folks in AND
out, so it's a win-win. You
can volunteer for one show
or many. If this sounds like
fun for you, use the email
and type "Front of House" in
the subject line. We will
DEFINITELY be in touch.
The evening show dates
are May 20, 21, 27, 28 and
June 3,4. The matinees are
May 22, 29 and
June 5. The Front of House
crew need to be there an hour
or so before the curtain goes
up.
Curtain is at 7:30 for
evening shows and 2:00 for
matinees. Come see a show,
see your friends, and — most
important — meet some new
friends. More info about
Tater Patch Players is on
Facebook and also at
www.taterpatchplayers.org.
We look forward to meeting
you!
