Mrs. Pauline Whitfield
Stephens, 92 of Jasper,
passed away Wednesday,
May 25, 2022 at The Retreat
at Jasper.
Mrs. Stephens is survived
by her son and daughter-in-
law, Paul & Carrie Stephens
of Jasper; daughter, Ava
Rogers of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Lori
Whitfield of Lake Arrowhead; sisters and brother-in-law, Re
becca Bannister of Marietta, and Joyce & Rick Cothran of
Marietta; grandchildren, Maria & Kevin Miller, Eddie & Jo-
dene Rogers, Jacob Stephens, Luke Stephens, Allie Stephens,
and Cody Rogers; great-grandchildren, Derek and Destiny;
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward
Stephens; brother, Garland Whitfield; son-in-law, Daryl
Rogers; and grandson, Cliff Rogers.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 27,
2022 at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev.
Steve Wigington officiating.
Pallbearers: Eddie Rogers, Jacob Stephens, Luke
Stephens, Chuck Whaley, Mike Whitfield, and Steve Gibson.
Honorary pallbearers: Mark Hinton and Kenton Baggs.
The family accepted potted plants or donations can be
made to Cool Springs Baptist Church, or Veteran's Memorial
Park in Jasper.

Edna Pendley
August 29, 1931 -
May 23, 2022
Mrs. Edna Pendley, 90, of
Jasper, passed away Monday,
May 23, 2022 at Piedmont
Mountainside Hospital.
Mrs. Pendley was a won
derful Mother, Nannie, and
friend to many, and was
dearly loved by all. She is
survived by her son, Grady
Pendley of Jasper; daughters
and son-in- law, Shirley Ledford of Ellijay, and Luteen &
Terry Hitt of Jasper; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laymon Pend
ley, and son, Billy Pendley.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26,
2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment was at Burnt Mountain Baptist Church Ceme
tery following the funeral service.
Pallbearers: David Pendley, Harold Pendley, James Hitt,
Mikey Neal, Greg Crowe, and Button Hitt.
The family accepted flowers, or donate to Wounded War
riors Project.

Marianne Woltmon
Passed into the Hands of
our Lord May 6, 2022, after
a lengthy illness in Talking
Rock, Ga, surrounded by her
family.
Marianne was bom in
Bakersfield, CA, and was
adopted and much indulged
by Milam (Shorty) and Mil
lie Houldridge. Marianne, or
“Mom” as she was known to
so many, loved her children, friends, and dancing. She placed
the interests of her children ahead of all else and leaves be
hind daughters Peggy Gilleland, Judy Rasmussen, Diane
Trepper-Gilleland, and Linda Bolen. She has also five grand
children and six great-grandchildren. Marianne also leaves
behind a much larger circle of friends that will remember her
vivacious spirit and generosity. She lives on in the hearts and
minds of all who met her.
Kenneth Caudill
Kenneth Ray Caudill, 70,
of Tate, Georgia passed away
Thursday, May 26, 2022 at
Piedmont Mountainside
Hospital in Jasper. He was
born April 12, 1952 to Ray
and Pauline Walker in
Sparta, North Carolina.
Ken is survived by his
wife, Lynn Caudill of Tate;
son and daughter-in-law,
Jacob and Ashleigh Cain of
Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Jes
sica and Daniel Bavani of Athens; grandchildren, Parker, Na-
talee, Wyatt, Brooks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Maynard
and Shirley Caudill of Cary, North Carolina and Tony and
Sheila Caudill of Fletcher, North Carolina; nephews, Neal
Cooper, Scott Caudill, and Jamie Caudill.
Amemorial service was held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May
28, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital.

Charles Gay
Charles E. Gay, 79, of
Talking Rock, Georgia
passed away Tuesday, May
24, 2022 at Piedmont
Cartersville Hospital. He was
bom August 16, 1942 to
Clyde and Mattie Dale Gay
in Jasper, Georgia.
Charles is survived by his
wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann
Gay of Talking Rock; son
and daughter-in-law, David
and Renee Gay of Talking Rock; grandsons, Matthew Gay of
Talking Rock, Travis Gunn of Talking Rock; brothers and sis-
ters-in-law, Jim and Elaine Gay of Ball Ground, Kenneth and
Wanda Gay of Jasper; mother-in-law, Annie Henderson of
Jasper. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many
friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mattie
Dale Gay; daughter, Stacy Gunn; and brother, Larry Gay.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 28,
2022 at Refuge Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Jarrett
officiating. Interment followed in the Refuge Baptist Church
Cemetery. Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by
the Pickens Star Lodge #220. Mr. Gay was a 55 year Mason.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contri
butions in honor of Mr. Gay be made to Roper Funeral Home.

Vonda Scott
Vonda Marie Scott, 81, of
Jasper, Georgia passed away
Friday, May 27, 2022 at
Pruitt Health. Marie drove a
school bus for Cherokee
County for 27 years and also
was known for playing the
piano. She started playing
the piano at the age of four
and was known for playing
in several gospel groups and
churches in the north Geor
gia area.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and
Ricky Kelley of Ball Ground, Debbie and Danny Norton of
Jasper; grandchildren, Shannon and Amy Kelley of Ball
Ground, Andy Kelley of Ball Ground, Dedra and Chris Bol
ing of Jasper, Dalton Norton of Jasper; great-grandchildren,
Jack and Mabry Kelly of Ball Ground and John Luke Boling
of Jasper; sister, Linda Weaver of Jasper; and aunt, Margie
Reece of Jasper.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kate Crowe
Weaver, Jasper; father, Arnold Padgett; brothers, Jimmy
Weaver, Ellijay, Billy Weaver, Jasper, Jackie Weaver, Cali
fornia, great-granddaughter, Abigail Kelley, Ball Ground.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, May
30, 2022 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev
erend Greg Hamilton officiating. Entombment followed at
Sunrise Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. Music will
be provided by Derek Comelison.
Pallbearers were Rick Kelley, Danny Norton, Shannon
Kelley, Andy Kelley, Chris Boling and Dalton Norton. Hon
orary Pallbearers were Jack Kelley, Mabry Kelley, and John
Luke Boling.
Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral
Home and Crematory.
Mahria Smith
Surrounded by family and
friends, Mahria Smith, 72, of
Jasper, Georgia passed away
on Friday, May 20th, 2022.
She is survived by her
loving and spiritual husband
of 16 years, Lamar Argroves;
daughter, Bronwyn Rumery
and husband Scott, of Jasper,
GA; granddaughter. Eliza
beth Simpson and husband
Noah, of Savannah, GA; grandson, Robin Hicks and wife
Tori, of Lawrenceville, GA; cousin, Michael Margotta and
wife Ellana, of Milan, Italy.
Mahria was a former secretary of the Jasper United
Methodist Church and was also an executive director of the
Pickens County Chamber of Commerce here in Jasper. She
was devoted to her community, volunteering with the Lioness
Club in which she was awarded Lioness of the Year for
1988/1989, and during her years as a freelance graphic artist,
designed the logo for the Pickens County Chamber of Com
merce and Sharp Top Mountain Arts Association. Mahria was
passionate about music, poetry and especially art and could
be found spending countless hours in her personal studio cre
ating whimsical fairy houses, painting intricate images on
walking sticks, designing unique jewelry, or simply just
drawing in her sketch book. Edgar Allen Poe and Dylan
Thomas were just a couple of her favorite authors, cherished
the artwork of Georgia O’Keefe, treasured classic rock, at
tending Woodstock in the 60s, and was infatuated with Bea
tles drummer Ringo Starr. Mahria went above and beyond to
help those in need, especially animals, rescuing numerous
cats and dogs over the years and was known to carry food in
her car for them. She found peace when tending to her vari
ous plants and flowers, taking walks with her dog Lindhi, and
said on numerous occasions that the reason she loved Jasper
so much was that it reminded her of the Catskill mountains.
She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
A service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers
donations can be made to the following organizations: Foun
dation Fighting Blindness, Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation,
or your local Animal Rescue/Humane’s Society. Care and
trust placed with In Their Honor of Jasper Funerals and Cre
mations.

Jr.
Walter Kenneth Gleason
Jr., 61, of Ranger, Georgia
passed away Sunday, May
29, 2022 at his home. He was
bom September 6, 1960 to
Walter and Elizabeth Glea
son Sr. in Miami, Florida.
Walter is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Jes
sica and Jason Mathews of
Ranger; grandson, Johnathan
Mathews; mother Elizabeth Naomi Vickery of Jasper; brother
and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Gaylene Gleason of Jasper;
nephews, Seth Gleason, Colin Gleason, Tyler Gleason; and
great-nephew, Zylar Gleason. Several other relatives also
survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter K. Gleason
Sr. and son, Daniel Lee Gleason.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Masonic Resolution on the death of Brother Charles Eu
gene Gay
To the Worshipful Master, Warden, and Brethren of Pick
ens Star Lodge #220 F&A.M. Jasper, Ga.
Whereas, on May 24, 2022 it was the will of the Grand
Architect of Heaven and Earth to call from Labor to Refresh
ment our beloved Brother Charles Eugene Gay.
And whereas we, his brethren, feel keenly his absence frm
our midst, and while we humbly bow to the will of our Infi
nite Creator, we desire to make a suitable Memorial, there
fore:
Be it resolved that Pickens Star Lodge No. 220 F&A.M.
express to the family of our departed Brother, deepest sym
pathy and wish to express our gratitude for his life of service
among us.
Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be
sent to the bereaved family of our departed brother, a copy
to be spread on our minutes and a copy be published in the
Pickens County Progress.

The City of Jasper is seeking Proposals from
qualified and experienced firms to develop a park
and amphitheater master plan. Responding firms
should have a strong record in successfully assist
ing local governments with preparing plans for
parks, event venues, and new recreation facilities
and experience in working on Federally Assisted
Projects.
Responding firms should be qualified to provide
a comprehensive park masterplan including site de
sign, landscaping design, lighting design, band
shell/stage design, restrooms design, and onsite and
perimeter parking. Additional Park features may in
clude splash pad, playground, oversite tower, inter
pretive signage, and other recommended features.
An original and four (4) copies of the proposal
must be enclosed in a sealed envelope clearly
marked, “Proposal for Professional Architectural
Services - Park and Amphitheater”. All proposals
must be delivered to the City of Jasper City Hall,
Attn: Kim Goldener, Assistant City Manager, 200
Burnt Mountain Road, Jasper, Georgia 30143 no
later than 3:00pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022.
The Request for Proposal (RFP) may be down
loaded from the City’s website at www.jasper-
ga.us, or by emailing the request to Kim Goldener
at the City of Jasper at kgoldener@jasper-ga.us.
The RFP may also be obtained at the City of Jasper
