"Ask Us" Sessions at Your Local Library

on-one help by reserving time (up to 30 minutes per session)
with a library staff member in person, by phone, or virtually.
Sessions can be reserved by calling your library or by visiting
SequoyahRegionalLibrary.org and clicking “Contact Us”.
Our staff can help you learn to use library technology, access

chance to “book” a librarian.

celebrate 2022 Summer Learning. It’s now easier than ever

The Tabor House History
Museum would like to wel
come and invite all new resi
dents who have an interest in
our history to come any
Thursday, Friday or first Sat
urday of every month from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We know
that there are many retired
people moving to our beauti
ful community that want to
know more about the history
of Gilmer County, and possi
bly volunteer their time either
doing tours or working “be
hind the scenes.”
The 1870 Tabor House is
the oldest house in Ellijay.
The Tabor family once had
10 acres where the house
stands including not only the
house but bam, boarding
school, outside kitchen and
big garden. With our court
house just being across the
street, the county needed
space for parking lots. Luck
ily, we were able to keep the
house from the wrecking
ball.
Inside you will find a
Cherokee room, honoring the
people that once lived here, a
parlor, complete with 1890
parlor pump organ and a 100
year old rocker just donated.
Upstairs, you will find the
children’s bedroom, 1800’s
kitchen, the Civil War room
and War room. Also on dis
play, our new exhibit, the 100
year old gold mining artifacts
recently acquired. In the
Civil War room, you will
hear the story of David Bai
ley Freeman, the youngest
Confederate Civil War sol
dier, age 11 years, who sur
vived all four years of the
war from Ellijay. Also on
display, is an actual surgeon’s
table from the war with a
sample of just “biting the bul
let” to kill the pain of ampu
tations. Our War room
contains uniforms all the way
from W W1.
For the locals that just
never have had the chance to
visit, now is the time with
school closing. Show your
children a part of history. We
have had many home school
families in and they are al
ways pleasantly surprised in
what they find. The Tabor
house is located at 138
Spring Street, Ellijay. Visit
www. GilmerCountyHistori-
calSociety.org.
