Furry suspect apprehended after
rash of beastly behavior
A small black bear suspected of
disturbing homes inside Jasper’s city
limits was caught Friday night and
residents say he was not working
alone.
Even as this one was being relocated Saturday, another
bear was spotted lounging on the back deck of a home in
Fox Run.
The captured 135-pound bear was lured into a trap baited
with sardines. The black bear was later sedated, tagged and
then released into a north Georgia wilderness area.
Improvements made at city park lake
No one has ever drowned at the lake in the Jasper City
Park; it’s likely no one has even had a close call, but the
fear that a child could fall into the lake which drops off al
most immediately to a depth of 25 feet led City Hall to
make extensive safety modifications.
Garry Poole, who works in the maintenance department,
said earth is being added to form a shallow shelf around
the edge of the lake. Some of the steeper banks are being
graded to reduce the risk of a person falling into the lake.

and pave north to Tate.
Baseball doubleheader Lathemtown-Jasper July 4th
When Jasper meets Lathemtown in a double-header base
ball game here on the Forth of July it will be a clash be
tween two of the strongest teams in this section. Jasper has
a strong team that wins an overwhelming majority of their
games, but they will tell you frankly that Lathemtown is
their most dreaded opponent.

Hawaii may become a state
A bill granting statehood to Hawaii passed the House of
Representatives. The opposition was light, a few members
of both political parties casting their vote against it. The
bill must yet pass the Senate, and as Congress expects to
adjourn soon it will probably not come up for a vote this
session.

Tommy Shaw
Thomas (Tommy) M.
Shaw, Jr., 67, of Jasper,

Tommy was born in At
lanta, Georgia on December
16, 1954 to the late Thomas
M. Shaw and Marguerite
Symms Shaw. He was a
graduate of Cherokee High
School, class of 1972 before
attending Southern Techni
cal Institute, where he re

Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper,
Georgia.
Tommy was best known for his kind and generous heart,
playful personality, and great sense of humor. He was a de
voted husband to the late Judy Holmes Shaw and father and
grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren more
than anything. God gave Tommy the gift of spending his last
day on this Earth riding through the mountains on his Harley
Davidson before calling him home in the waining hours of
Sunday evening.
When Tommy wasn't riding his bike, you might find him
spending time with family and friends at "The Creek", sailing
in the Caribbean, cheering for Georgia Tech, singing in the
church choir or watching his grandson play baseball.
He could always be counted on to help a friend in need.
At Shaw Supply he served as de facto psychiatrist and
philosopher while also finding hard to locate products as he
swapped tales with his customers, or striking up a conversa
tion with people about practically any subject. Tommy never
met a stranger - not here nor anywhere on Earth.
He is survived by his sons, Tripp Shaw and wife, Erin Car
penter Shaw of Ball Ground, Cooper Shaw and fiancee Tay
lor Park of Dothan, Alabama; grandchildren, Grayson and
Emma Kate of Ball Ground, sisters, Martha Shaw, and
Kathryn Amos; sister-in-law and dear friend, Janet Davis;
brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Connie Holmes as well
as nieces, Lina Davis, Maria Campano, Candra Sellers;
nephew, Tyler Holmes and numerous Shaw cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11
a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Dr. Jimmy
Lewis and Rev. Preston Jones officiating. Family will receive
friends on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m at
