King of King dedicates new church bell
Bell to be rung
daily for
inspiration
On Sunday, King of Kings
Lutheran Church held a ded
ication for a church bell that
will be rung daily for the in
spiration of the Jasper com
munity.
God has blessed King of
Kings LCMSGA with the do
nation of a bell. It was do
nated by the extended family
of church member Gary
Engel. At the close of the
worship service on Sunday,
August 7, 2022, friends and
family gathered on the
grounds of the church prop
erty in Talking Rock to dedi
cate the restored bell. Pastor
Jefrey S. Jensen led the dedi
cation service.
A 20 foot, free standing
tower crowned by a cross
was built to provide the bell’s
“forever home.” At the foot
of the tower, an engraved
bronze plaque states: “This
bell was purchased by Ed
ward John Engel and Rose
Goetz Engel in 1959 to grace
a Lutheran church. Donated
by the Engel family, it calls
worshipers to give glory to
God. The tower was erected
by members of King of
Kings to give the bell a for
ever home. May this bell be
heard until Jesus comes again
in glory.”
Quietly for 62 years, the
bell has now been removed
from storage on Engel family
property and restored to its
original purpose, “to call
people to worship, give God
Glory, and further enhance
worship.” The bell is cur
rently programmed to ring 12
times daily at noon for a full
minute on Sundays at 10:25
a.m. for the call to worship.
To God be the Glory.

A Faith Walk

wrote the hymn “A

His inspiration came
through the Holy Spirit
from Psalm 46:1: “God is
our refuge and strength, a

May his walk of faith

His craft and power are

And, armed with cruel

On earth is not his equal.

Our striving would be los

Simplicity
“So do not worry, saying,
‘What shall we eat?’ or
What shall we drink? ’ or
‘What shall we wear?’ For the
pagans run after all these things,
and your heavenly Father knows
that you need them. But seek
first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things
will be given to you as well.”
—Matthew 6:31-33 NIV
S implicity is perhaps the spiritual
discipline which is most at odds
with our complicated, affluent,
modem way of life. It is hard to live a
simple life if you are trying to keep up
with the Joneses and are keen to have
the latest gadgets. And let’s face it,
very few of us can live the kind of
simple, monastic life that we associate
with cloistered monks. But perhaps
the key to living and truly being
simple is just to love and trust God,
and to not be anxious about our next
meal, or our clothing or housing. It is
truly ironic that when we have little
we can be anxious to accumulate
money and material things to give us
some security, and then when we
have accumulated these things, we
become anxious to safeguard them.
Money and material things are no
safeguard against illness or death, or
a multitude of other misfortunes.
Seek first the kingdom of God, and all
these other things will come
naturally, or at least you will be
relieved of the anxiety you feel to
acquire them. Living a simple life
doesn’t require us to live like monks
or hermits, but it does require us to
have a single-minded devotion to
God. — Christopher Simon
