Are you a Fruit Loop or a Cheerio?
Let them know at Farmers Market
Collins Ride raises funds for
veterans park expansion
Farmers Market vendor Gabrielle Jones brought wild mushrooms. Gabrielle has a
foraging certificate showing she knows her ‘shrooms.
By Heather Giambra
A beautiful summer day
with a welcoming breeze to
the Jasper Farmers Market. A
lot of activity made for a vi
brant market day. Be a Fruit
Loop in a World of Cheerios
is one of the many colorful t-
shirts with colorful sayings
made by Brieanna Haralson
of To Diy For Designs. She
also has colorful sweatshirts
available. She and Sandi
DeLuca of Designs By
DeLuca teamed up their tent
space and colorful products
because they are, after all,
Designing Women.
Kenneth Kirk showed up
with the green beans. Bee
Sisters, Anna’s Art, and Little
Miss Piggy, along with An
Organized Quilt were happily
showing their wares. There
are three Wednesday markets
left this month for your mid
week shopping. Starts at 11
a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. All
those extra fresh veggies
need the extra market day.
Master Gardeners will
have their plant tent up next
Saturday since there was a
scheduling conflict that pre
vented it being up this past
Saturday.
Bring your garden and/or
plant questions so the
PCMGs can help. MGs spon
sor the Jasper Farmers Mar
ket. It is held at the Park N
Ride parking lot across from
the Veteran’s Memorial. The
market opens at 7:30 a.m. for
the early birds and runs until
noon. So this begs the ques
tion; are you a Fruit Loop or
a Cheerio? Come to the mar
ket and let us know. ’

Veterans Memorial Park
“Our community came to
gether for the 12th year in a
row to honor our hometown
KIA hero Sgt. David Collins
and raise a record amount of
$4,549 for charity,” proudly
exclaimed Brian Mclnerney
former ALR director.
Ron Wheeler of the
American Legion Riders
added, “Our success is due to
the tremendous generosity of
local businesses and riders
from across the state.”
Collin’s mom Lynn Napoli
said, “We appreciate every
one’s participation especially
the Legion Riders.”
The memorial receipts
will help fund the extension
of the Pickens County Veter
ans Memorial Park.
The Veterans Memorial
Park Phase II plans to move
the large marble veterans
monument currently in front
of Pickens County Court
house to the Veterans Memo
rial Park as part of our
expansion.
The marble monument
recognizes 55 names of Pick
ens County veterans and will
become the centerpiece of
the upgraded park. The phase
II plan, where the monument
will be placed, will expand
the current park to the south
and include marble benches
and black granite tablets with
finished granite featuring
photo-realistic engraving of
veterans in uniforms of vari
ous wars.
The grounds and path it
self will resemble a dog tag
with a bronze POW emblem
inside the hole. “Our Phase
II will allow the Veterans
Memorial Park to be truly in
clusive of all our veterans,”
said Phase II Vice-President
Jim Elrod.
Bricks of Honor are still
available to honor veterans
for $125 at pick-
ensvetsmemorial.com or call
