Minister’s Comer
mocrat, nor Republican. Nei
ther black, nor white, His
panic, Asian, or Indian.
Neither rich nor poor ... we
are all brothers in this fellow
ship.”
In his sermon, I mean re
marks, Governor Barnes
voiced another call to unity
stating, “Our trust is in God,
Faith in our Brothers, and the
charity given to all hu
mankind is all that matters ...
the world should look at us to
see how to act for the benefit
of all humankind.” Amen
Brother Roy.
Humankind has been stiff
necked for a long time as
noted by Exodus 32:9: “I
have seen these people, the
Lord said to Moses, and they
are stiff-necked people.” The
Lord was responding to the
people who had been deliv
ered from slavery whom
were now making a golden
calf to worship ... not the
God who had delivered them.
Will you join me in trying
to UN-STIFF your neck? In
politics? Racial matters?
Name calling and anything
that does not promote an out
stretched hand and heart of
peace?
It took the Masons of
Georgia 92 years, three
months and 18 days to un-
stiff their necks .... may we
work much faster.

by a highly talented guy on a lengthy, multi
million dollar deal save left, catcher and
shortstop. There’s really nowhere else to play
him unless...
Remember though. Dansby Swanson’s
contact expires at the end of this season.
News broke about contract talks between his
agent and the club within hours of Grissom’s
arrival. The kid’s presence could drive the
veteran shortstop towards a team friendly
deal to remain in Atlanta. If not, there’s no
need to look elsewhere for a replacement.
These contributions by the aforemen
tioned rookies have tndy kept the Braves in
the division race. Their futures look so bright
that it’s blinding but this newest kid, Grissom
may actually be the best of the bunch.

August 21-August 27
August 21 st.-
On this day in 1932, Cleveland Indians
pitcher, Wes Ferrell, became the first hurler
in major league history to win 20 or more
games in each of his first four seasons. Ferrell
notched his 20th victory during Cleveland’s
11-5 win over the Washington Senators. He
even scored a run in the second inning and
tacked on an RBI in the ninth. Ferrell won 21
games with the Indians in 1929, 25 more in
1930, another 22 in 1931 and completed the
‘32 campaign with 23. He went on to add two
more 20-win seasons with the Boston Red
Sox in 1935 and 1936.
August 22nd:
On this day in 1989, Texas Rangers
pitcher, Nolan Ryan, collected his 5,000th
strikeout when he farmed Oakland Athletics
left fielder, Rickey Henderson. Ryan com
pleted the night with 13 strikeouts while al
lowing five hits and two baserunners. Despite
this performance, the A’s blanked the
Rangers, 2-0.
August 23rd:
On this day in 1947, the very first Little
League World Series title game took place in
Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It ended with the
Maynard League All-Stars defeating Lock
Haven in a 16-7 rout. The Maynard squad
also racked up tournament victories over Jer
sey Shore, the Brandon League and New
berry. Jack Losch, who was a member of that
championship team, went on to play college
football at the University of Miami. Losch
was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in
1956, becoming the first LLWS participant to
compete as a pro athlete.
August 24th:
On this day in 2006, Jerry Rice officially
retired from the National Football League
after signing a one-day contract with the San
Francisco 49ers. Rice suited up for the Niners
from his rookie season in 1985 all the way
until 2000. He then spent three and a half sea
sons with the Oakland Raiders before joining
the Seattle Seahawks midway through the
2004 campaign. Rice still holds the all-time
NFL records for receptions, receiving yards
and receiving touchdowns. He also earned
three Super Bowl rings and was named the
Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXIII.
Rice became a member of the Pro Football
Hall of Fame in 2010.
August 25th:
On this day in 1952, Detroit Tigers
pitcher, Virgil Trucks, became the third hurler
in major league history to record two no-hit
ters in the same season. Trucks was also the
only pitcher in club history to have a pair of
no-hit outings during the same year and both
were 1-0 shutouts. His first came against the
Washington Senators on May 15th. This one
took place against the New York Yankees,
where Trucks faced 30 batters, allowed one
baserunner and posted eight strikeouts.
August 26th:
On this day in 1962, Jack Kralick became
the first pitcher to have a no-hitter in a Min
nesota Twins uniform. Kralick retired the first
25 batters he faced while logging three strike
outs. A ninth inning walk separated him from
a perfect game as the Twins blanked the
Kansas City Athletics, 1-0.
August 27th:
On this day in 1911, Ed Walsh became the
third pitcher in Chicago White Sox franchise
history to throw a no-hitter, joining Nixey
Callahan and Frank Smith. Walsh’s achieve
ment came during Chicago’s 5-0 blanking of
the Boston Red Sox. He faced 28 batters, al
lowed one baserunner and notched eight
strikeouts.

Race
Report
race. The rest of the stage
went caution free and
Logano held off Kyle Busch,
who was staying close be
hind for the lead the whole
stage, to win Stage 2. During
the stage break, Logano,
Busch and other drivers pit
ted and the lead was given
back to McDowell. Stage 3
officially started on lap 45,
and on the same lap, the 1st
caution for incident came
out. Chastain got into the
side of Austin Dillon in the
bus stop portion of the track,
which caused Dillon to spin
out and caused Finnish mo-
torsports driver making his
first ever Cup series start,
Kimi Raikkonen, to hit the
outside tire barrier. The race
restarted on lap 48 and El
liott took the lead from Mc
Dowell a lap later. He would
continue to lead until green
flag pit stops started to hap
pen but would still end up
back in the lead on lap 72.
The 4th caution of the race
happened on lap 79 when
Joey Hand spun into the tire
barrier in turn 1. The race
restarted with nine to go in
the race and the last caution
of the race flew with seven
to go for Hezemans spinning
into the gravel and getting
stuck in the gravel. On the
last restart, Larson, restarting
next to Elliott on the front
row, locked the brakes up
going into turn 1 and moved
Elliott out of the way for the
lead and went on to win at
Watkins Glen.
As for the race, this was
another very solid Watkins
Glen race and road course
race this season. Stage 1 was
amazing because the drivers
were racing in wet condi
tions and on rain tires since
NASCAR rides allow the
drivers to race in wet condi
tions on road courses. This
led to many battles and
passes for position since the
track being wet made it more
of a challenge for the drivers
to race the racetrack. Stage 2
and Stage 3 weren’t as good
since the track was drying up
and the drivers weren’t on
rain tires anymore. But there
was still great racing all
throughout the remainder of
the race with a very exciting
finish. So all in all, it was an
other race at The Glen worth
remembering.
Next week, NASCAR
will be heading back to Day
tona International Speedway
for the last race of the regu
lar season before the play
offs officially start one week
later at Darlington. There
have still been 15 different
winners this season, but the
fact Daytona is a super
speedway there is a good
possibility we will have an
other first-time winner this
season, making the playoff
field be completely full of
drivers that have won this
season.
