Optimist donate more than $10,000 to local groups
The Jasper Amateur
Radio Club meets on the sec
ond Thursday of each month
at 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone
Church Auxiliary building,
145 Cornerstone Drive (off
Camp Road just east of the
Pickens County Community
Center).
All visitors are welcome
to attend. Each meeting has a
free presentation and discus
sion of Amateur Radio
events or operating modes,
including Emergency Com

Each year after their three
major fundraisers, the Opti
mist Club of Jasper invites
local organizations to one of
their August meetings to re
ceive their donations.
This year the club was
able to provide over $10,000
in donations to organizations
that help them reach their
mission of “bringing out the
best in kids.”
Donations were given on
August 4th to:
• REACH Scholarship pro
gram
• Weekend Snack Program
• The Hope House
• Angels on Horseback
• ACES Youth Home
• CARES
• Ferst Readers of Pickens
County

August 18th to:
• Boys and Girls Club/Pick
ens County
• The Joy House
• Pickens County 4-H
• N. Georgia Family Partners
• The Pregnancy Center
• Habitat for Humanity/Pick
ens
• Pickens Library Youth Pro
grams
As a Friend of Youth, our
club holds three fundraisers
each year to not only make
donations but also to fund
various projects including
Legion of Character, Von J.
Hinton Memorial Citizenship
Awards, STAR Banquet and
Scholarships, Oratorical and
Essay Contests, Junior Opti
mist Golf and Junior Opti
mist Clubs.
Our upcoming fundraiser
is the selling of Optimist
pecans that are fresh and this
year’s crop from Ellis Broth
ers. Be on the lookout for
these pecans the end of Oc
tober and first of November.
