Books&Writers
Bent Tree writer Hank Hollensbe, author of 10 novels,
encourages other writers to look at Kindle Direct Publish
ing as one way to see that work is available for the public.

discusses options of
bringing your
masterpiece to light
Hank Hollensbe’s new
novel, Barlow, is available
for sale at Amazon books—
$10 for both the paperback
and Kindle. Google HENRY
HOLLENSBE to order a
copy. It’s a 454 page search
tale; you’ll cheer the good
guys on to victory.
Instead of the usual pro
motion, Hank has suggested
that the Progress add the fol
lowing description of his ex
perience in bringing novels
to market. He is doing so in
order that those of you who
have that great novel ready to
go—if only you knew what
to do after it’s finished—can
proceed.
There are three main ways
for you to get that great idea
out of your mind and into the
hands of your readers:
Via your agent (in rare in
stances directly), send it to a
real publisher, e.g., Random
House. If Random House
likes it, they might give you
$300,000 or more (plus roy
alties), print 100,000 copies,
and sell them at $25 each.
Orrrrrrr, give $5,000, or
maybe $10,000, to a ‘vanity
press’. (There are many of
them lurking out there.) They
will prepare your book for
printing, including the paper
work to register it—ISBN,
etc.
They will then print
twenty-five copies and send
them to you. You are left to
decide what to do with them.
Orrrrrrr, you can Google
‘Amazon Kindle Direct Pub
lishing’. KDP is a subsidiary
of Amazon. The technical as
pects of dealing with KDP
are not difficult—I assure
you. Submit your novel.
When it meets KDP tech
nical requirements, it will be
available for purchase on
line—NOT PUBLISHED, of
course—but AVAILABLE—
on line, selling at the price
you set.
Including my new book,
Barlow, I now have ten nov
els at Amazon books. Take a
minute and Google me
Henry Hollensbe—and see
what the first entry has to say.
My final pitch to you, my fel
low undiscovered writers:
my cost—my investment—
in my dealings with KDP and
making my books available
has been and remains zero.
Your novel can see the light
of day.
