Family Dollar
Donation
In partnership with Boys
& Girls Clubs of America
(BGCA), leading discount
shopping chain, Family Dol
lar, has provided $148,200 in
funding to help build great
futures for the youth it
serves.
One way Family Dollar
supports BGCA is through
vendor partnerships, like the
recent candy contest the
company presented in their
local stores. Stores Associ
ates were asked to feature
candy bars at the registers.
With each transaction, Cus
tomer Service Representa
tives were instructed to ask
every Customer, “Would you
like to support Boys & Girls
Clubs of America by pur
chasing a candy bar?” The
districts achieving 100%
sell-through were entered
into a drawing for a chance
to win and there were 12
winners total.
Our local Family Dollar
Store was one of the winners.
On September 15, 2022 - our
local Family Dollar Stores
presented the Boys & Girls
Clubs of North Georgia with
a check for $11,100. We are
so fortunate to have such
strong community partners in
Pickens County, who know
the importance of the after
school and summer care that
the local Clubs provide.
Family Dollar provides
consumers with a quality,
high-value assortment of
basic necessities and sea
sonal merchandise. Family
Dollar has been supporting
BGCA’s mission and local
Boys & Girls Clubs since
2014. They are committed to
doing whatever it takes to
support our great futures.
Thank you to our local Fam
ily Dollar stores for caring
about our Club kids’ futures.

This week's recipe brought to you by
Rooster's Markets ^
54 Roosters Way, Jasper, GA • 706-301-8176
CREAMED COLLARD GREENS
3 bunches collard greens(trimmed of tough
stems and sliced ‘/-inch thick ***
2 tablespoons butter ***
'A teaspoon finely ground real salt (plus
additional for blanching the greens)
1 large yellow onion (sliced thin) ***
'A cup chicken broth
1 'A cups heavy cream
!4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
'A teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
*** Found at Rooster’s Market
Instructions
Blanch the collard greens.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high
heat, and season with salt as you like it.
When the water is at a rolling boil, drop in
the collard greens and cook them in the hot
water for about 2 to 3 minutes or until bright
green, then immediately strain them into a
colander and rinse them with cold water. Set
aside while you prepare the onions and
cream.
Prepare the onions and cream.
•Melt the butter in a wide skillet over
medium heat. When the butter foams, toss in
the sliced onion and sprinkle them with salt.
Cook the onion, stirring occasionally, for 2 to
3 minutes, and then stir in the chicken broth.
Continue cooking until the chicken broth is
almost gone, and the onions are tender and
soft - about 6 more minutes.
•Pour in the cream, and simmer, until reduced
by half. Stir in the nutmeg and black pepper,
and then fold in the collards. Turn down the
heat to medium-low, and continue cooking
until collards are wanned through. Serve hot.
