business on North Main
Street and a home in the
Hunter’s Ridge subdivision.
Our featured home for this
week will include the home
of Mark and Levonne Leuen
berger located at 900
Hunter’s Ridge in Jasper. The
stone and siding two story
home was built in 2004 for
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Roper.
Mrs. Roper designed the
home and was inspired by
her travels around the South
east, pulling French and
British elements from Savan
nah and Charleston as well as
rustic, natural elements from
Tennessee and North Geor
gia.
Mr. Roper used his ex
pertise in plumbing to insti
tute an elaborate shower in
the master bedroom, a claw-
foot tub in the French bed
room and a desk converted to
a sink in the mountain bed
room.
The home was purchased in
2018 by Mark and Levonne
Leuenberger as a second
home. They moved to Jasper
full time in 2019. Since set
tling in, the Leuenbergers
have completed many reno
vations while keeping the
original British Colonial,
French Country and rustic
design elements of the home.
The largest project, a base
ment remodel, was com
pleted in 2021 and includes a
wine room, home theater and
gym.
For Christmas, the Leuen
bergers will showcase multi

Christmas on
Sunday, Dec. 4
How did citizens in
1906 light their holiday
without Rudolph’s nose?
How did they put a
spark into Christmas be
fore they had electrticity?
How did people that
lived in a log cabin over a
century ago celebrate?
The Pickens Historical
Society knows it’s begin
ning to look a lot like
Christmas and has there
fore brought to you, this
special holiday season,
life as it was 116 years
ago.
On display, at the Old
Jail at 141 North Main
Street, Jasper is a replica
of a jingling Christmas
past. Featured under the
tree is an overside wooden
train set, a baby carriage
with a life-sized doll and
lots of cranberries, pine
cones and bells. In the
kitchen check out the
“Bean Hole” through
which trusted prisoners
were served. See the hid
den listening device the
sheriff used to spy on pri
vate conversations be
tween an attorney and his
client.
Take a tour of the an
cient log cabin, the old
wood floors, tiny window,
sparse furniture and sleep
ing loft. Experience the
sounds, the aromas, how
people dressed and
cooked meals using only a
fireplace.
Don’t miss this look-
into-the-past display of
Jasper’s history. Put a
Dec. 4 tour from 3 p.m.
until 7 p.m. of the histori
cal Old Jail and Kirby-
Quinton Cabin on your
holiday list of things to do
this bright season. You
and your family have an
opportunity to view how
the sheriff, his family and
the occupants of an an
tique cabin celebrated
their holiday.
Mark your calendar.
