Harmony Elementary
making strides
Targeted Support and
Improvement Status Removed
School District
Press Release
Pickens County School
District is pleased to an
nounce that excellent teach
ing and improved learning
outcomes for students has
resulted in Harmony Ele
mentary being removed
from the Georgia Depart
ment of Education
(GaDOE) Targeted Support
and Improvement (TSI) list.
Harmony Elementary
(HES) has been on the list
for the past three years, and
due to COVID and the im
pact it had on gathering and
evaluating student data, re
moval from the list has been
delayed for a couple of
years.
Through the support re
ceived from the GaDOE,
Harmony has been able to
provide additional learning
supports to students and
offer professional learning
opportunities to staff.
The school had to meet a
host of rigorous require
ments to be removed from
the list including improved
student achievement.
The following data show
how the work of teachers,
staff, and students have led
to this celebratory moment:
• Increased Overall Con
tent Mastery by 9% from
2021 to 2022
• Increased Literacy 16%
from 2021 to 2022
• Improved subgroup
performance in both ELA
and Math by at least 50%
All HES teachers and
staff have poured countless
hours into planning, profes
sional learning, and ongo
ing collaboration. They
have remained committed
to doing what is best for stu
dents.
In a message to families,
the school was able to say
“Thank You” for the unwa
vering support families
have shown. Last, but cer
tainly not least, HES stu
dents have been diligent in
working hard and pushing
themselves to grow aca
demically.
Outgoing Superintend
ent Tony Young added,
“The HES school family
and community has been in
volved throughout this
process. Students and staff
put in the hard work that
needed to be done and the
improved achievement has
earned them this opportu
nity to celebrate excellent
work and dedication.”

Jake MacCorkle, a combat vet,
returns home to a boring life.
When his father dies in an auto

one person he trusts. The will
says he inherits 3,000 acres in
North Georgia, but with restric

fulfill his father's last request.
While spreading his father's
ashes, the wind swirls them into
his face. Briefly blinded, he
wipes the ash from his face and
dimly sees hundreds of people
lining the banks of the river.
When he clears his eyes, they
are gone. Confused and fright
