The Appalachian Judicial Circuit’s Veterans Treatment Court January 12th program
now accepting applications for veteran mentors looks at Civil War in Pickens
The Appalachian Judicial Circuit’s
Veterans Treatment Court is accepting
applications for the 2023/24 Veteran’s
Mentor program. The court, which was
implemented in 2013 by Chief Superior
Court Judge Brenda S. Weaver, pro
motes sobriety, recovery, and stability
through a coordinated response that in
cludes volunteer military veterans who
serve as mentors to participants in the
Veteran’s Treatment Court.
Veteran mentors volunteer their time
and become part of a support system for
veterans who may suffer from substance
abuse, traumatic brain injury, and men
tal illness that results in domestic vio
lence, divorce, unemployment, home
lessness, and criminal charges. Veteran
mentors interact and maintain a rela
tionship with Veteran Treatment Court
participants throughout their treatment,
increasing their chances for sobriety and
getting their lives back on track. A typ
ical mentor serves 18 to 24 months. This
commitment, other than the 2 day train
ing, only will take a few hours weekly.
Prospective mentors must apply and
submit a valid DD214/215 and if ac
cepted, will participate in training on
March 18-19th, 2023. This training will
include the history of Veterans Treat
ment Courts, responsibilities and
boundaries of veteran mentors, compo
nents of effective mentoring, and the
guidelines for the execution of duties
and responsibilities. All veterans re
gardless of time in service or rank are
encouraged to apply.
For an application or more informa

Program Coordinator, cholt.ajcaccount-

Attention Football Fans: Give blood
You could win tickets to the Super Bowl
During this gift giving
season, remember to give the
gift of life. On Monday, Jan
uary 9, 2023 from 1 - 5 p.m.
the Presbyterian Women of
Fellowship Presbyterian
Church will host our second
blood drive. Go to ameri-
canredcross.org and sign up
today. You will be entered
automatically for a chance to
win two tickets to the Super
Bowl.
Blood is a perishable
product that can only come
from volunteer blood
donors. With someone in the
U.S. needing blood every
two seconds, blood products
must be constantly replen
ished, according to the Red
Cross. “We urge community
members to donate blood
and help ensure that patients
in local hospitals have a sup
ply of blood ready and wait
ing before an emergency
occurs. There’s no better
feeling than knowing that
your blood donation may
give someone a second
chance at life.”
See you on January 9.

Presbyterian Church, 389
