Nettes Senior Spotlight:
(Left to Right) Senior Nettes: Emma Gleason, Madison Powell, Adrienne Plumley
The first half of the season
is being champions of two
tournaments. Second half
will be battling some of the
toughest teams in Georgia
before the state tournament
even starts. Make any New
Year s Resolutions?
Emma Gleason - No, not
for me.
Madison Powell - I do
not have a New year’s reso
lution.
Adrienne Plumley - Find
ways to lower my stress lev
els.
Many people enjoy watch
ing the Nettes compete. What
is something interesting
about being on the inside that
regular fans wouldn't notice,
but would find interesting?
Emma Gleason - ‘‘I like
to change half of the LED
lights in our locker room to
the opponents we are facing
that day’s school color.”
Madison Powell
“Something very interesting
about our team is before each
state game our whole team
and coaches eat a spaghetti
dinner together. This is a
chance to celebrate each
round and having the chance
to be with all of your team
mates. It also is special be
cause state is single
elimination it could be the
last time all together other
than the game.”
Adrienne Plumley
“Each round of state we eat
the same spaghetti because
it’s tradition.”
What is a moment in the
1st half of the season you are
proud of what do you look
forward to the most for the
2nd half of the season?

Madison Powell: “Beat

the first half of the season
that I am very proud of. In

If you had to invite one of
your coaching staff over for
dinner, who would you invite
and why?
Emma Gleason: “Coach
Shaw because he wouldn’t
show up... #FC
Madison Powell: “If I
had to invite one of the
coaches for dinner I would
invite Coach Thomas be
cause he always has stories to

What are one or two of the
hardest things about being a
varsity Nette?
Emma Gleason: “Not
only getting better at basket
ball, but having to become a
better person and grow in
areas that are tough. Having
a tight family that will be
gone one day.”
Madison Powell: “One of
the hardest things about
being a Nette is after the
summer break starting back
in October getting back into
the routine of basketball.”
Adrienne Plumley:
“Competition level and keep
ing our high standard be
cause even though they are
both good they take a lot of
work.”
What is one or two of the
coolest things about being a
varsity Nette?
Emma Gleason: “Having
the best fans not only in the
state of Georgia, but the en
tire world. They make us
play better by the energy they
bring. Having our media and
stats guy Mr. Randy Pet
tyjohn who takes the coolest
pictures, makes the best
runouts and game day posts,
and is so generous to girls he
doesn’t even know.”
Madison Powell: “Some
of the coolest things that
come with being a Nette are
getting cards from the little
kids from the elementary
schools and getting to play at
home in front of a huge
crowd.”
Adrienne Plumley: “We
experience a lot of high en
ergy games and we build a
bond.”
What is a great piece of
advice you've learned from
playing bball that you will
carry with you after gradua
tion ?
Emma Gleason: “The
Nettes Nine of course, but
there was a speech about
being a transformational
coach vs. a transactional
coach that I’ll use in my fu
ture career and hobbies.”
Madison Powell: “That
no matter the role you have
every role has value.”
Adrienne Plumley:
“Don’t waste your time.”
What is your final score
guess for UGA v.v TCU?
Emma Gleason: “UGA
47- TCU 17”
Madison Powell: “UGA:
42 TCU: 28
Adrienne Plumley:
“UGA 47 TCU 7”
Dragons post two wins
in Holiday Classic
The Dragons started the
Pickens Holiday Classic with
the best performance of the
season, defeating Cartersville
74-68.
The Dragons came out
strong against the bigger and
more athletic Hurricanes,
posting a 41-26 halftime
lead. The Canes stormed
back and made the game
close down the stretch but
clutch free throw shooting
sealed the win against the 5 A
Canes. The Dragons were led
by Jaden Stewart with 18
points followed by Caleb
Lanford with 15 and Caleb
Keith with 11. The Dragons
played extremely well on the
defensive end to frustrate the
much quicker Canes leading
to the victory.
The second night saw the
Dragons take on Savannah
Christian in a tight game.
Pickens jumped out to a big
lead but cold shooting let the
Raiders back into the contest.
The Dragons were led by
James Tilley with 15 points
followed by McCord Purdue
with 14 and Caleb Lanford
with 11. The Dragons held on
for a 52-46 victory over the
Raiders.
The final game of 2022
for the Dragons was a match
up vs. 6A Lassiter. The Drag
ons fell 57-44 despite a
tremendous effort from the
short-handed Dragons. Pick
ens held a brief lead in the
fourth quarter before cold
shooting and good play by
Lassiter led to the loss. Caleb
Lanford led the Dragons with
25 points. No other Dragon
was in double figures.
The Dragons will be back
in action January 4th at home
versus Northwest Whitfield.

Driver Review - Ross Chastain
By Alex Korowotny
Racing Sports
Correspondent
No better way to start the
year with talking about the
amazing wall-rider that is
Ross Chastain. Ever since
that last lap move at Mar
tinsville, Chastain has be
come a favorite among many
NASCAR fans. However, he
was already a really liked
driver amongst fans, so let’s
go over the very interesting
career Chastain has had.
Chastain started racing in
NASCAR in 2012 in the
Truck series, and it was
pretty forgettable. He wasn’t
in any top tier teams, so he
wasn’t expected to do much.
He moved to the Xfinity se
ries full-time in 2015 and
drove for the underfunded
team, JD Motorsports. He
stayed with the team for four
years, but he made the most
out of the equipment. It ben
efited so much that he got a
deal with Chip Ganassi Rac
ing in the 42 car in Xfinity.
Ganassi was a much better
team than JD Motorsports, so
big things were expected
from Chastain. This deal
lasted for three races, and the
first race with this new offer
was at Darlington. Chastain
won the pole, dominated the
race, and won stages 1 and 2.
He looked like he was going
to and prove to everyone
what kind of a driver he
could really be. Unfortu
nately, his race got ruined
when Harvick, racing in the
Xfinity series as well, went
really down low to pass
Chastain for the lead, which
resulted in Chastain’s race
being ruined. However, the
next race with deal at Las
Vegas, Chastain dominated
the race again and won the
race. He backed that up by
finishing second in his last
race with the Ganassi deal at
Richmond.
After what Chastain
proved, he went back to
Trucks but with a top-tier
team, Niece Motorsports.
Since he didn’t drive full
time with Ganassi, he could
n’t stay in a top-tier team in

Big Game
Meal
For the third time in
the coach Kirby Smart
era, the Georgia Bull
dogs (14-0) have
reached the national
championship game and
will face Texas Christian
University (13-1) on
Monday night. The top
ranked Dawgs open as a
14 point favorite over
the third ranked Homed
Frogs.
We could discus
TCU’s superb yet un
likely 51-45 Fiesta Bowl
victory over number two
Michigan (13-1) which
committed numerous
turnovers and played
poorly or Georgia’s last
second 42-41 triumph in
the Chick-ftl-A Peach
Bowl via a missed 50
yard field goal by num
ber four Ohio State (11-
2).
We could debate
names for this particular
Peach Bowl like “Come
back at the Benz” or
“Midnight Miracle” or
“Choke at the Chick.” I
could bore you with a
game preview and talk
Xs and Os, but let’s ad
dress something of real
substance about this
championship.
What food will each
of us serve for this mon
umental football game?
TCU’s mascot is the
Horned Frog. In Texas,
the homed frog name
refers to a spike covered
lizard which is a reptile
rather than an amphib
ian, but ignore that
minor detail.
Conventional wis
dom and our passion for
southern cuisine
screams for a frog leg
dish regardless of the
kingdom, phylum, class,
order, family, genus or
species of the mascot.
Bring on the southern
style batter fried frog
legs with hush puppies,
corn on the cob,
whooped taters and
coleslaw for me! Since
the game is on a week-
night, I’ll pass on the li
bations, but throw me
another roll.
While not as versatile
as Bubba Gump’s
shrimp, there are lighter
options such as steamed
or sauteed frog legs. A
quick web search re
veals countless recipes
for this under appreci
ated delicacy: Cajun
style, Caribbean style,
French style, jambalaya,
stews, soups, and more.
A generous serving of
any of these dishes
should give you the
strength to stay hoping
through all four quarters.
However and what
ever you serve on game
day, do not overcook it,
especially frog legs
which become dry and
chewy.
Happy New Year and
Go Dawgs.
