Crossing the Line at FPC
Dancercising in Fellowship Hall at FPC.
To run a good race, there
has to be a starting line and a
finish line. It can be a chalk
line, a laser beam or a line
kids draw with their toe in the
dirt of a playground. You can
signal the beginning by wav
ing a flag, firing a shot or
dropping a hat.
About now, for most of us
it’s measured by a date on
your calendar - the end of
one race and the blessing of
setting goals to begin an
other. This is a time to rest,
reflect and restore. It’s true
for a business, political states
or body of people with a
common goal. Our goal at
Fellowship Presbyterian is
bringing ourselves and others
into a closer relationship with
Jesus Christ.
During the time for reflec
tion during 10 worship this
past Sunday Pastor Blake
Hudson shared our pulpit
with Rev. Katie Hudson to
deliver the message. Katie
shared insight into how
Joseph was also chosen by
God, in obedience and ac
tion. His life was changed.
He mattered. This is God
working through ordinary
people. Joseph stood strong
between life and death -
keeping their marriage prom
ise preventing Mary’s ston
ing and traveling to Egypt
escaping Herod’s pledge to
kill the baby Jesus. God
speaks to each of us, grounds
us and uses us.
The 2026 class of elders
will be installed as part of our
worship service this coming
Sunday. Bill Coble and An
gela Vaughn begin their first
service as elders. Dianne Mc
Mullen and Catherine Pichon
will continue serving in the
Session, composed of 12 rul
ing elders.
Dancercise classes, led by
Connie Kirk, celebrates this
month five years of fun,
Christian rock music and
healthy exercise in our Fel
lowship Hall. Everyone is en
couraged to do what they can
and not worry about the rest.
Stronger bodies and caring
friendships grow where ex
cess weight once lived. Come
every Tuesday and Thursday
at 10 a.m. Best of all Dancer
cise is free - absolutely no
charge.
Please consider this your
personal invitation to FPC.
Come to 389 Bent Tree Drive

Hope for the
New Year
By Ben Mock
It is undeniable that
2022 was a year of disap
pointment for many, de
spair for some. As we turn
another page on the calen
dar, we would do well to
ponder, how might we
avoid the pitfalls of dis
couragement on our jour
ney around the sun in
2023? Whimsically wish
ing one another a Happy
New Year simply won’t
suffice, any more than
making ourselves a laun
dry list of superficial res
olutions that fade all too
soon, year after year. If
we are to make it through
what is forecast to be an
other turbulent year, it is
imperative that we set our
hope on and in the One to
whom all things are possi
ble.
Hope is an expression
of trust, and is the result
of faith in something or
someone who has proven
themselves absolutely
trustworthy. To that end

Why We Should Pray
I t is possible to live a virtuous
life by simply adhering to the
universal rules of morality
which every moral philosophy and
religion dictates: Be honest,
respect other’s property, help each
other when they are in need, etc.
But it is not possible to live a
godly life without prayer, for
without prayer we lack that
openness to the experience of God
which is required if we are to be
true Christians. God’s grace is
abundant, but it cannot be given
without being asked for; grace
must be freely asked for and freely
given. This can only happen
through sincere and heartfelt
prayer. Over and over again we see
throughout the Bible that God’s
chosen ones come to him on bent
knees with prayer and
supplication. The godly call upon
God in their time of need whereas
the godless rely upon their own
strength. Prayer, at bottom, is
nothing more than a spirit of
openness to what God is telling
us, but it is also a conversation,
with us asking God for help, and
thanking Him for his many gifts
to us.
“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show
them that they should always pray and not give up.
