Pickens Man Arrested for the Sexual Exploitation of Children
METAL ROOFING
GBI press release
On Friday, January 6,
Terry Lee Pixley Jr, age 25,
of Pickens County, was ar
rested and charged with four
counts of sexual exploitation
of children, by the Georgia
Bureau of Investigation
Child Exploitation and Com
puter Crimes (CEACC) Unit.
Two counts were for pos
session and two counts were
for distribution of Child Sex
ual Abuse Material (CSAM).
The GBI CEACC Unit began
an investigation into Pixley’s
online activity after receiving
a cybertipline report from the
National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children
(NCMEC) regarding the pos
sible online production, pos
session, and distribution of
CSAM.
During the investigation,

it was determined that Pixley
might have moved to North
Carolina. With the assistance
of the North Carolina Internet
Crimes Against Children
Task Force (ICAC), new
leads were generated and re
vealed that Pixley was possi
bly back in Georgia. Pixley
was found at a home in
Jasper and arrested. Pixley
was taken to the Pickens
County Jail.
This investigation is a
joint coordinated investiga
tion involving the North Car
olina ICAC, the South
Carolina ICAC, the Texas
ICAC, and the Arkansas
ICAC.
This investigation is part
of the ongoing effort by the
Internet Crimes Against Chil
dren (ICAC) Task Force,
housed within the GBI’s
Child Exploitation and Com
puter Crimes Unit, to identify
those involved in the trade of
child sexual abuse material.
The ICAC Program, cre
ated by the U.S. Department
of Justice, was developed in
response to the increasing
number of children and
teenagers using the Internet,
the proliferation of child sex
ual abuse material, and the
heightened online activity by
predators searching for unsu
pervised contact with under
age victims.
Anyone with information
about other cases of child ex
ploitation is asked to contact
the Georgia Bureau of Inves
tigation Child Exploitation
and Computer Crimes Unit at
404-270-8870 or report via
the National Center for Miss
ing and Exploited Children

Set up for gardening with early soil test
Local Extension gives scoop on getting the dirt

As we go through the
winter months in anticipation
of spring many of us are
starting to think about those
spring gardens. The thoughts
of what to plant where, when
to plant, and getting seeds
ready is the first thoughts
that come to mind when get
ting ready to plant.
However, one simple
thing that often is forgotten
about is having a soil test
done. With the cost of fertil
izers today, a simple soil test
can save a lot in expenses.
A soil test is the first step
in developing and maintain
ing productive soil. A soil
test will show the soil's cur
rent nutrient status and help
determine the amount and
nutrients needed for the best
growth of your garden, lawn,
or other plants.
Collecting a soil sample is
not as simple as going out to
the garden and throwing
some soil in a bag. A good
test comes from multiple

samples of the area needing
to be tested. Using the right
sample tool, and sampling
from the correct depth and
areas are all key to getting
the most accurate results.
Follow the following steps to
get the most accurate results
for your soil test.
Multiple Samples
First, you need to take 8-
10 samples from each loca
tion.
Using a zigzag approach
works best. A soil probe is an
easy way to get a sample,
which can be rented out from
the extension office.
Know the right depth
to sample
Step 2 is knowing the
proper depth to sample. For
lawns, you want to get to a
depth of about 4 inches. For
home gardens, a depth of 6
inches should be used. Tim
ing your samples is impor
tant to ensure adequate time
for fertilizer and lime appli
cation.
If a soil probe can’t be ob
tained, a garden trowel can
be used. When using this
method be sure to clear the
surface of any grass or
mulch, push the tool to the
desired depth into the soil.
Push the handle forward,
with the spade still in the soil
to make a wide opening, cut
a thin slice from the side of
the opening that is of uni
form thickness, approxi
mately 1/4-inch thick and 2
inches in width, extending
from the top of the ground to
the depth of the cut.
Mix it Up
Collect from several loca
tions. Combine and mix
them in a plastic bucket to
avoid metal contamination.
Take about a pint of the
mixed soil and place it in the
UGA soil sample bag, or a
bag to bring into the office.
Soil samples cost $10 per
sample and can be paid by
cash or check to the Pickens
County Extension Office.
Samples can be dropped off
during business hours Mon-
day-Friday 8 AM-5 PM
closed for lunch from 12-1.
For more information reach
out to the office by calling
706-253-8840.
