Community Thrift Store needs your help
IS CTS
Community Thrift Store
By Suellen Reitz
CTS Public Affairs
Most folks who have been
in Pickens County for a
while know about The Com
munity Thrift Store and the
great bargains you can find
there.
Some know how involved
the store is with the commu
nity through it’s various fes
tivals throughout the year
and the huge amount of
money that is given back to
Pickens nonprofits every
year.
In 2022, the store gave
out grants in excess of
$400,000. But did you know
that the store is fully a vol
unteer staff? Our volunteers
are there because they want
to support the community in
which they live. And as suc
cessful as CTS has been over
the 22 years of giving
back... we still need help so
that we can continue to give
even more.
Although we would wel
come anyone that would like
to volunteer, we are looking
for a few folks with special
skills to enhance our abilities
to serve.
Volunteer positions
needed include:
dock-warehouse (super
vise/organize donations);
eBay site manager (develop
& manage program for sell
ing donated items online);
transportation (drive CTS
truck for donation pick-ups
within county); receptionist
(answer phone, schedule
pick-ups & take messages);
Web Master (keep CTS web
site maintained & updated;
crafter/hobbyist (to manage
craft/hobby dept.); carpen
ter/handyman (repair minor
damage/flaws on donated
items); fundraiser (organize
& implement fundraisers for
various events); security (in
store security); daily/depart
ment coordinators
(becoming part of manage
ment team with leadership of
others).
If any of these areas of
special skills interest you,
please come into the store
and talk to us, or email us at
cts30143@gmail.com and
someone will get back to
you right away.
If you can spare a few
hours a week, your service to
others will bless you more
than you can imagine. Our
family of volunteers is big
but we want it to grow. Can
you help?

Expect Love Letters from community theater
on the stage this Valentine’s Day
Submitted by
Tater Patch Players
Rehearsals are continuing
for the upcoming first show
of the 2023 season at Tater
Patch Players.
Nan Nawrocki is directing
the Pulitzer Prize nominated
play, Love Letters, by A. R.
Gurney. This show follows
the lives and love of Andy
and Melissa.
They exchange cards and
letters over nearly 50 years,
starting with very young
Andy’s thank-you note to a
birthday party invitation by
Melissa’s mother. Over their
continuing years of corre
spondence, they discuss all
the hopes and ambitions,
dreams and disappointments,
victories and defeats that
have passed between them
throughout their separated
lives.
Many celebrated couples
and pairs of actors have per
formed this play over the
years, both on and off Broad
way. Tater Patch is delighted
to have real-life couple Jacob
and Buffy Clark in the roles.
They have been working
diligently to assume the per
sonalities of these two char
acters. The director advises
that there are a few times
when there is adult language
in the play, as Andy and
Melissa’s emotions run high
during their correspondence.
The show has just five
performances, February 10,
11, 12, 17 and 18. It is not an
accident that these perform
ances are around Valentine’s
Day, as Andy and Melissa
both try to express and to
avoid recognizing their love
over the years.
Tickets are available on
line anytime at www.tater-
patchplayers.org/tickets or on
performance dates beginning
an hour before show time at
the box office. The theater is
at 95 Philadelphia Lane in
Jasper.
The showtimes are 2:00
on the one Sunday perform
ance and 7:30 p.m. for the
other shows. There will be a
dress rehearsal on February
9 that will be open to our
friends who are unable to af
ford tickets at this time.
Tater Patch Players calls
this our “Share Night”.
Buffy and Jacob will share
the final dress rehearsal with
you. In turn, if those attend
ing this rehearsal will share
with those in need by bring
ing a bag or two of non-per
ishable food items or
toiletries for the CARES
food bank, then it’s a win for
everyone.
Meanwhile, the director
of Steel Magnolias has had
auditions and that cast will
be announced soon. It opens
March 24.
If you have any interest in
theater, contact us at tater-
patchplayers@gmail.com and
put “volunteer” in the sub
ject line.
Any help, from folding
playbills, to ironing cos
tumes, to writing grants
would be deeply appreciated
as Tater Patch continues to
bring great shows to its Pick
ens County community.
