offerings to Main Street
By Eli Galligan
Intern Reporter
What started as a heartfelt
inside joke between owner
Sarah Allen and her mom be
came Bad Donkey Maker’s
Market and Studio, which
opened last year.
Bad Donkey Maker’s
Market and Studio, located
on 75 North Main Street,
Jasper, offers a unique expe
rience that anyone can appre
ciate. From painting and
chair-weaving to their very
own "splatter room," Bad
Donkey provides a multitude
of fun ways to get involved
with local business.
Allen, who was originally
from Colorado, was inspired
by Jasper’s Main Street and
thought it would be the per
fect fit. From there, she pro

for local freelance artists to
showcase their work.
Bad Donkey prides itself
on having a variety of art that
is of high quality, preferably
pieces with a story to tell.
"It's difficult to put your
self out there," Allen admits,
adding that she enjoys being
the medium through which
talented locals can express
themselves.
And yes, art is pur-
chaseable.
"We get new artists and
pieces all the time," Allen
says. Workshops are open to
the public and cost between
$40 and $125. Treats and live
music are also occasionally
offered for workshop partic
ipants and other patrons to
enjoy,
"There is something here
for everyone," Allen wants
the community to know.
Owner Sarah Allen has cre
ated an open, artistic space
in Bad Donkey. She show
cases local artists and also
hosts workshops, parties
and other events.

Plant America - Nurture the garden through
Beautification, Socialization and Education, ”
Garden club’s theme for the year
Submitted by Amicalola
Garden Club Vice
President Fran Cathy
The Amicalola Garden
Club is off and running with
the start of the New Year. Our
regular meeting was held on
January 17, 2023 at the Tate
Community Room and
presided over by President
Linda Allred. A beautiful
blessing was given by Susan
Armstrong and lunch was
served and hosted by Glenda
Thompson and Susan Arm
strong.
Susan Armstrong read the
minutes of the November
2022 meeting and Anita
Poole presented the Trea
surer’s Report. Fran Cathy
gave a horticulture tip on how
the winter cold has affected
Georgia crops and landscape
plants. The only old business
was a limb in the Old Tate
Cemetery was removed by
Leo Hampton.
January is traditionally a
planning meeting for the new
year and updating of the year
book, which is prepared by
Anita Poole. “Plant America
- Nurture the Garden through
Beautification, Socialization
and Education” was decided
on for the theme for the year.
The programs, horticul
ture tips, speakers, hostesses
and chair persons were de
cided on for the year. Some
ideas for possible horticulture
tips were discussed and ap
propriately selected for each
month.
A committee was formed
to apply for at least five
awards during the year. Com
mittee members are Fran
Cathey, Linda Allred, Peggy
Andrews, Jan Tate, Barbara
Walters, Susan Armstrong,
and Pam Yeargin.
