Minister’s Comer
ties.
I am afraid some of us have
been guilty at times of doing
something similar concern
ing our priorities in life, espe
cially in relation to the Lord.
The Bible makes it clear that
He is to be first in our lives.
Jesus told His followers to
“seek first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness”
(Matthew 6:33). He also
made it clear that we must
love Him more than we love
our families, and even our
own lives, or we cannot be
His disciple (see Luke
14:26). Jesus also confirmed
that the greatest command
ment we’ve been given is to
“love the Lord your God with
all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your mind”
(Matthew 22:37). These
scriptures and others suggest
it should be the testimony of
those who follow Jesus, “I
am putting the Lord first.”
However, there are other
things that compete for that
top spot in our lives. Often,
while claiming to be putting
God first, we still try to put
these other aspects of our
lives as our main priority as
well. “I need to put my fam
ily first - my spouse - my
children. Family comes
first.” “I need to put my work
first - I need to provide for
my family.” “I have to put
myself first. No one else is
going to look after me, I have
to look out for number one.
Pursuing my own happiness
and fulfillment has to be my
main priority.” Other com
petitors might include our fa
vorite sports team, our hobby,
or some other big interest in
our lives. Don’t get me
wrong. Many of those other
aspects of life can be very
important. Some of them
need to be priorities in our
lives. However, there can
only be one number one.
There can only be one top
priority. Not everything or
even several things can really
be first in our lives. We are
fooling ourselves if we are
claiming to be putting God
first while allowing other as
pects of our lives to be just as
important or on an equal
basis with Him.
If we will be faithful to give
the Lord the preeminence He
deserves, He will take care of
all those other significant as
pects of our lives. If He is our
top priority, we will be better
able to be a blessing to our
families. If we seek God first,
He promises to provide for
our needs. If we love Him
with all our hearts, we will
find what we need to have a
meaningful and fidfilling life.
All those other things in our
lives will fall into their
proper place if we will put
the Lord first.
Let’s make “Jesus first” more
than our pious-sounding slo
gan. Let’s seek to make it a
reality.

Finding home at Holy Family
Episcopal Church of the Holy Family
On Sunday, March 5 at 8
a.m. and 10:30 a.m. the Rev.
George Yandell will preach
on who said these words?
“There’s no place like
home.” Dorothy in Wizard of
Oz.
“The Lord said to Abram,
‘Go from your country and
your kindred and your fa
ther’s house to the land that I
will show you.’” I wonder-
if you and I had been Abram,
Sara and Lot, would we have
answered Yahweh and fol
lowed that command?
Jesus said to Nicodemus,
“No one can see the King
dom of God without being
bom from above. You must
be bom of the Spirit.” To be
at home in God, we must be
bom into the domain of God
- it becomes home for us.
This is the content of
being reborn from above: ac
cepting the mission Jesus
chose and working with him
to its fulfillment. It means
we’re converted from pil
grims into missioners. And
it’s not a one-time event. It’s
a process of finding home in
community with those
who’re also being converted.
George Yandell was called
by the vestry in July 2012 as
Rector having served as
Priest-in-Charge at Holy
Family since August 1, 2010.
He came from Calvary Epis
copal Church in Memphis,

Senior Associate to the Rec
tor for eight years. Ordained
for 43 years, George has
served churches in Georgia,
Tennessee, Arkansas, and
Texas.

February 26-March 4
February 26th:
On this day in 1987, the Washington Bul
lets established a club record by blocking 20
shots. Washington center, Manute Bol, per
sonally accounted for 15 of those while
adding 10 points on five of nine shooting
with 19 rebounds. The remaining five rejec
tions came courtesy of power forward,
Charles Jones, as the Bullets defeated the In
diana Pacers, 100-94.
February 27th:
On this day in 1959, Boston Celtics point
guard, Bob Cousy, set the NBA single-game
mark with 28 assists. Cousy also poured in
31 points during the Celtics’ 173-139 victory
over the Minneapolis Lakers. This record has
since been broken but remains an all-time
franchise high.
February 28th:
On this day in 1960, the United States
Olympic hockey team took home its very
first gold medal. The Americans came from
behind and scored six unanswered third pe
riod goals before routing Czechoslovakia, 9-
4. Left winger, Roger Christian, scored three
of his game-high four goals during that final
frame. Three of Roger’s netters were assisted
by his brother, William, whose son, Dave,
was a member of the 1980 Olympic team that
won the gold. Another sibling duo, Bob and
Bill Cleary, made their presences known as
well. Bob scored twice, with Bill setting up
one of his goals. Bill finished with two assists
before finding the net himself in the third.
March 1st:
On this day in 1970, Bobby Orr became
the first defenseman in NHL history to rack
up 25 goals in a single year. This took place
during the Bruins’ 3-1 win over the St. Louis
Blues, when Orr found the net during a power
play situation at the 53-second mark of the
third. He completed the 1969-70 season with
33 netters and 120 points. This was also the
first of Orr’s six consecutive 100-point cam
paigns.
March 2nd:
On this day in 1966, Chicago Blackhawks
right winger, Bobby Hull, became the first
player in NHL history to have two separate
50-goal seasons. Hull’s first came during the
1961-62 campaign, when he finished with ex
actly 50. He reached that mark again during
the third period of Chicago’s game with the
Detroit Red Wings. Hull found the net at the
5:15 mark as the Blackhawks broke a dead
lock to win, 5-4. He completed the 1965-66
season with 54 goals and 97 points.
March 3rd:
On this day in 1985, Boston Celtics power
forward, Kevin McHale, put up a franchise
record 56 points during a 138-129 victory
over the Detroit Pistons. McHale went 22 of
28 from the field while logging 16 rebounds
and three blocked shots. His scoring mark,
however, only lasted nine days as Larry Bird
dropped 60 against the Atlanta Hawks.
March 4th:
On this day in 1999, the Toronto Maple
Leafs tied an NHL record with the fewest
shots on goal in one game. The Leafs only
had nine chances in that department, but still
managed to shut out the St. Louis Blues, 4-0.
Four different Toronto players found the net,
including Mats Sundin, who scored at the
2:13 mark of the second period. Curtis Joseph
also had a 28-save shutout.

Stage 3 started on lap 138
with Harvick taking the lead

Busch would take the lead
from Harvick just after the

on lap 141 for Ty Dillon

After the final restart, Chas

for the lead for a while before
Busch took the lead just be

keep the lead after the pit
stops finished and would

Overall, this was another
amazing Auto Club race.
One thing that makes Auto
Club a very unique and en
tertaining track is that it is a
big track, and also a very
wide track. They are wide
enough that drivers can go 5-
wide into the turns. With how
wide it is in the turns, it can
lead to a lot of side-by-side
battling, and that is what we
saw in this race. What also
helps the track produce great
racing is that the track sur
face is very old. The track
hasn’t been repaved since
1997 when it first came to
NASCAR, shortly after it
was completed. The old track
surface makes the tires on the
cars wear out a lot, and that
leads to many passing due to
the wide variety of tire fall
off all the drivers experience,
which really came into effect
during the race. For example,

(Just past the library)
towards the end of stage 2,
there were at least five driv
ers competing for second
place and some of them were
on older tires than each other.
The only thing that kind of
held the race back is the fin
ish being uneventful since
Busch had a 3'A second lead
over second place Elliott at
the end. So other than the fin
ish, the race was very solid
and a great final way to end
NASCAR racing at the two-
mile Auto Club Speedway.
Next week, NASCAR
heads back to Las Vegas
Motor Speedway. Last year’s
races there were also amaz
ing, so we’ll see if next
week’s races give off the
same level of excitement.
