Minister’s Comer
attributed to Saint Francis
may help us get a better han
dle on strengthening our rela
tionships vs. fighting over
issues. Francis disregarded
his wealth to serve people
following the example of
Jesus. Tndy, following the
prayer will help build rela
tionships with the Lord and
each other as it did with Fran
cis. No guarantees you will
be asked to the White House
for dinner but your quality of
life will be improved with
family, co-workers, neigh
bors and enemies. Try it.
Prayer of Saint Francis
“Lord, make me an instru
ment of your peace: where
there is hatred, let me sow
love; where there is injury,
pardon; where there is doubt,
faith; where there is despair,
hope; where there is dark
ness, light; where there is
sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant
that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to under
stand, to be loved as to love,
For it is in giving that we re
ceive, it is in pardoning that
we are pardoned, and it is in
dying that we are bom to
eternal life. Amen!
Trails and Labyrinth at Holy Family
Episcopal Church
All are invited to the Epis
copal Church of the Holy
Family to walk the nature
trails and labyrinth on our 38-
acre campus. A kiosk sign
with information about the
campus is located on the
south side of the church park
ing lot. The trails encompass
nature and historic areas to
taling 2.8 miles. While on the
trails, make sure you stop to
enjoy the three chair swings
adjacent to the lake as a place
for relaxation, contemplation
and prayer, and maybe some
fishing.
On the trails you will also
find the 14 Stations of the
Cross (or The Way of the
Cross) as a prayerful devo
tion that recalls the series of
events leading up to Jesus’
crucifixion and burial. The
numbered stations represent
when: 1) Jesus is condemned
to death; 2) Jesus takes up his
cross; 3) Jesus falls the first
time; 4) Jesus meets his af
flicted mother; 5) the cross is
laid on Simon of Cyrene; 6)
a woman wipes the face of
Jesus; 7) Jesus falls a second
time; 8) Jesus meets the
women of Jerusalem; 9)
Jesus falls a third time; 10)
Jesus is stripped of his gar
ments; 11) Jesus is nailed to
the cross; 12) Jesus dies on
the cross; 13) the body of
Jesus is placed in the arms of
his mother; 14) Jesus is laid
in the tomb.
As a spiritual tool, the
prayer and reflection. The
labyrinth is a model of a
path- exactly where we need
to be, a metaphor for life’s
journey. It’s an ancient sym
bol that relates to wholeness,
combining the imagery of the
circle and the spiral into a
meandering but purposeful
path.
It represents a journey to
our own center and back
again out into the world.
There is no right way to walk
a labyrinth, you only have to
enter and follow the path.
The labyrinth pattern is de
signed for wheelchair acces
sibility.

Vulnerability at Holy Family
Episcopal Church
On Sunday, March 12,
2023 at 10:30 a.m. the Rev.
Dr. Bill Harkins, Priest Asso
ciate at Holy Family Episco
pal Church, will offer a
sermon on The Samaritan
Woman and Vulnerability:
Hers, and ours (John 4:5-42).
Much has been speculated—
and written—about the
Samaritan women at the well.
And much of this has re
sulted in narrowly relegating
her to one particular narrative
or another, thereby distancing
us from her story. What if we
are more alike than different?
Come join us in worship at
Holy Family as we observe
the Third Sunday in Lent.
Come, and see!
Bill Harkins taught pas

March 5-March 11
March 5th:
On this day in 2002, New York Rangers
defenseman, Brian Leetch, set the all-time
NHL record for overtime goals by a blueliner
with six. Leetch tied the score with 6:22 re
maining in regulation before getting the
walk-off netter at the 3:44 mark of sudden
death. His heroics helped the Rangers defeat
the Minnesota Wild, 3-2.
March 6th:
On this day in 2003, St. Louis Blues right
winger, Scott Mellanby, tied a franchise mark
with four power play goals in one game. Mel
lanby scored twice in the first period before
matching that total in the third. The Blues
took a 3-0 lead before posting a 6-3 win over
the Phoenix Coyotes. This contest also saw
Mellanby record his first-career hat trick after
1,209 NHL games.
March 7th:
On this day in 1975, Montreal Canadiens
right winger, Guy Lafleur, became the first
player in club history to collect 100 points in
a single season. Lafleur scored twice, includ
ing the goal that ignited Montreal’s string of
five unanswered netters at the 16:20 mark of
the second period. He also picked up two as
sists as the Canadiens defeated the Washing
ton Capitals, 8-4.
March 8th:
On this day in 1913, major league base
ball’s Federal League was officially organ
ized with six new franchises. This list of
teams included the Chicago Whales, Cleve
land Green Sox and Covington Blue Sox,
who moved to Kansas City and became the
Packers midway through the league’s inau
gural campaign. The other clubs featured the
Indianapolis Hoosiers, Pittsburgh Rebels and
St. Louis Terriers. This league lasted three
seasons before folding in 1915, with the
Whales winning the last championship.
March 9th:
On this day in 1979, Detroit Pistons point
guard, Kevin Porter, set a franchise record by
distributing 25 assists in one game. Porter ac
complished this feat during Detroit’s 160-117
victory over the Boston Celtics, a contest
where he also topped all scorers with 30
points. Later that month, the Conductor be
came the first player in NBA history to have
1,000 assists in a single season. He completed
the 1978-79 campaign with 1,099.
March 10th:
On this day in 1998, Buffalo Sabres goal-
tender, Dominik Hasek, became the club’s
all-time leader in games played. Hasek made
his 308th appearance in a Buffalo sweater
and stopped 20 shots during a two-all tie with
the New York Islanders.
March 11th:
On this day in 1996, the Canadiens played
their final game at the Forum. Montreal de
feated the Dallas Stars, 4-1, thanks to right
winger, Andrei Kovalenko’s three-point
night. Kovalenko’s performance included the
final goal ever scored in this historic facility,
which took place with 6:04 remaining in the
second period. When the final buzzer
sounded, seven decades of tradition and suc
cess may have ended, but the memories lived
on.

Racing
Report
1, and leading all of Stage 2
with Stage 2 going caution-
free the whole way. On lap
182, the first caution for inci
dent happened when Ke-
selowski got into Logano
while they were racing 3-
wide with Busch off turn 4,
and it caused Logano to spin.
During pit stops under cau
tion, Byron would finally
lose the lead. After the next
restart, Larson would take
the lead from Hamlin on lap
197. Larson would pull away
with the lead and looked to
win until with four to go, the
caution flew for Almirola
getting sideways and hitting
the wall. Everyone besides
Truex came in to pit and
Byron would win the race off
pit road. On the final restart,
Byron would clear Truex for
the lead and would win at
Las Vegas.
As for the race itself, it
unfortunately wasn’t that
good. It was definitely not a
bad race, but not that exciting
in terms of racing. Stage 1
was pretty good with a lot of
battles and good amount of
passing. Stage 2 was just ok,
because there was still a
good number of battles, but
that much passing. Plus, the
field got really strung out due
to there being no cautions.
While something like this
doesn’t ruin a race, it does
make the race less exciting
when drivers are far apart
from each other and there
isn’t a whole lot of passing
going on. Byron dominating
kind of stunk up the show as
well, since it made it really
boring up front, especially
since there was little comers
and goers towards the front
of the field as well. Stage 3,
after the Logano caution,
started out really good. There
was many drivers running
near the leader, battling each
other for position both up
front and in the middle of
field. Afterwards, the field
started getting more strung
out and less passing started to
happen. The finish was fairly
good since Larson looked
like he was going to win, but
when the caution came out
for Almirola, it was a big
game changer since Truex
stayed out and Larson lost
the lead. Byron taking the
lead from Truex made it ex
citing to watch, especially
since him winning was
somewhat of an upset, since
he wouldn’t have won if the
last caution didn’t come out.
However, what drags the fin
ish down a little is that the
caution for Almirola wasn’t
really warranted since even
though he got sideways and
hit the wall, he still kept it
going straight and didn’t
spin. So overall, it was a
pretty decent Vegas race. Not
one of the best races, but not
one of the worst either.
Next week, NASCAR
heads back to Phoenix Race
way. The shorter tracks last
year were very underwhelm
ing, but with the recent
changes NASCAR’s made to
the cars, there is a chance
next week will be a good
race.
