Ruth’s Remembrances
What is a friend?
The friend I’m talking
about is one I worked with
for about 20 years continu
ing well after we both re
tired, for a total of about 35
years.
When you work with
someone that long, you
come to know them pretty
well. You learn not only
their goodness but also
some of their not-so-good
ways, but love them never
theless. You laugh together,
cry together, but always
have each other’s back.
You can tell them things
you maybe couldn’t anyone
else. You call each other to
tell them some of the crazy
(forgetful) things you have
done, just to hear them
laugh. You can laugh with
them but they will never
laugh at you. You learn,
over the years, when you
do call them, never to hang
up until you tell them that
you love them. I was
blessed to be able to tell my
friend that I loved her one
more time not long before
she had to leave. For that I
will always be grateful.
I hope you have a friend
like that. I love you Shirley.

Community Thrift Store
There’s new sign at the front
comer of the Community
Thrift Store that is a true ex
ample of what the store is all
about. The banner on the per
manent structure is designed
to be rotated through out the
year with the seasons and
events.
The introductory banner
appropriately has the new
motto of the store in big let
ters... “How Can We Help”
across a sunrise scene with a
cross to commemorate the
Easter season.
The wooden sign structure
was designed and bult by
Timothy House resident
Quinn Smith, who has been in
construction work and cabinet
building most of his adult life.
“Sarge (CTS President)
gave me a rough sketch and it
just came together with the
help of the T-House team,”
spoke Smith. “I felt very priv
ileged and thankful for the
opportunity to use my God
given talents.”
The rustic sign was finished
with the Shou Sugi Ban tech
nique of charring the wood
with a torch to preserve the
wood. The Japanese first
originated the technique back
in the 1800’s and gives wood
a natural rustic finish.
Men in the Timothy House
Drag & Alcohol Recovery
Program assist the volunteers
at the store in the dock receiv
ing area.
“We couldn’t operate here
without their assistance,”
spoke store president Terry
“Sarge” Bishop. “Their value
has become even more im
portant since the T-House Di
rector, Bob Trowell has
become the dock manager.
His involvement and the pos
itive attitude of the T-House
residents has made the receiv
ing area unbelievably suc
cessful in receiving the
donations and getting the
merchandise on the floor for
sale.”
