Community Easter Sunrise Service at Trinity Church
14 Since therefore the children
share in flesh and blood, he [Jesus]
himself likewise partook of the same
things, that through death he might
destroy the one who has the power of
death, that is, the devil, 15 and de
liver all those who through fear of
death were subject to lifelong slavery.
- Hebrews 2:14-15
Did you see that? How does it
strike you to know Jesus came to “de
liver all those who through fear of
death were subject to lifelong slav
ery”?
Perhaps we didn’t fear death as
kids but the older we get, the more
we begin to think about what’s be
yond this life. We begin to wrestle
with who God is and what He expects
of and wants from us. What must we
do to please God? How can we know
we’ll be with Him when we die?
Before long, those questions can
turn into doubt and doubt can turn
into fear. But, fear not, Jesus came to
put your fear of death to death! This
is great news because the fear of
death can be so strong that it leads to
“lifelong slavery”. Jesus came to free
us from the fear of death but He also
came to extend to us life eternal.
Jesus is the answer to life’s most
fear inducing questions because of
His life, death and resurrection.
Easter is the highpoint of hope for
everyone who places their trust in
Jesus because He conquered death by
rising from the grave. That’s why we
celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on
Easter Sunday and that’s why we’re
inviting you to join us for our Com
munity Easter Sunrise service.
Sunrise services have been a tra
ditional way to celebrate the early
morning visit of the women to the
tomb of Christ. Participating in a
sunrise service helps us relive that
miraculous morning and experience
the joy those first believers felt when
they realized Jesus was alive.
This is why three local churches
are joining efforts to host a Commu
nity Easter Sunrise service on April
9th at the Big Canoe Terraces. What
a meaningful way to begin the most
important day of the year.
All members of the community
are invited to join the Big Canoe
Chapel, Trinity Church and Foothills
Community Church for a gathered,
outdoor service at 7am on Easter
Sunday morning. The 45-minute
service will feature music and Scrip
tures that celebrate the resurrection of
Jesus. If you can attend this service,
please bring your own camping
chairs. The entire community is in
vited, so please let others know. If it
rains, the sunrise service will be held
at Trinity Church (2685 Steve Tate
Highway, Marble Hill). For more in
formation, call Trinity Church at 770-
893-2682.

Be Grateful for a
Suffering Savior
By Rev. Tony Elder
Recently I have been
suffering from my aller
gies. It is not unusual this
time of year for some of us
to have to deal with sinus
issues, scratchy throats, or
other symptoms as we face
the spring pollen.
We use the word “suf
fering” to describe these
physical irritations, but
they pale in comparison to
the sufferings others are en
during. I think of a ministe
rial colleague and friend
who has suffered greatly
over the past few months
from cancer surgery and
the effects of chemotherapy
treatments.
I think of individuals
close to me who are suffer
ing grief over the loss of a
loved one. I think of those
who are suffering the dev
astation from recent storms
in various parts of our
country, in some cases los
ing family members,
houses, or possessions.
And then there is the suf
fering of Jesus. “Suffering”
is one of the concepts we
should be keeping in mind
as we move into this Holy
Week of commemorating
the events surrounding
Jesus' death and resurrec
tion.
As important as Jesus'
death on the cross was for
our salvation, the Bible
doesn't only focus on the
fact that Jesus gave His life
for us. It also emphasizes
His sufferings, both in what
took place prior to His cru
cifixion and in this horrible
act of execution itself.
Jesus didn't quickly and
painlessly leave this life.
He suffered, and He did it
for us. “For Christ also suf
fered once for sins, the just
for the unjust, that He
might bring us to God,
being put to death in the
flesh but made alive by the
Spirit” (I Peter 3:18). In the

Negativity
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Proverbs 23:7
There are many ways in which we can fall into negative patterns of thought or behavior. We all
make mistakes, but when we do, we should try to look at them as learning opportunities. We all
occasionally say or do thoughtless things that hurt our friends or families, but when we do, we
should consider it an opportunity to ask for forgiveness, and our relationship might be
deepened thereby. We should all pay closer attention to what we say and do throughout the day.
How much of it is knee jerk negativity? And, not just what we say to others, but how much of
our internal dialogue is filled with negativity? How often do we berate ourselves for minor
mistakes or omissions? We should try to be more like the coach who builds up her athletes
with a pep talk or the teacher who convinces his students that they can work out a difficult
problem. The important question for the track athlete is not whether you won the race but
whether you did your best. Studies show that there are very few times when negativity helps
us; it is almost always better to be an optimist than a pessimist. So, do what you can to throw
the negativity overboard and to have a more positive attitude. Life is good and getting better,
and even when it's not so good you can still choose to make the best of it.
