Georgia Department of Trans
portation has approved the Lo
cation and Design of this
project.
The date of location and de
sign approval is: March 3, 2023
The proposed intersection im
provement converts the signal
ized T-intersection of SR 53
Business and Dragon Drive to a
roundabout. The proposed de
sign includes a right-turn bypass
lane on the approach for Dragon
Drive to SR 53 BUS westbound
and a dedicated left-turn lane on
the southbound approach to SR
53 BUS eastbound. The length
of the proposed project is ap
proximately 0.6 miles, and it is
located approximately 2.5 miles
southeast of the City of Jasper
in Pickens County in Land Dis
trict 4. Dragon Drive provides
access to Pickens County High
School.
The proposed typical section
includes two travel lanes that
vary from 12 - 27.8 feet. Splitter
islands will be constructed on all
four approaches, with a central
island. An off-site detour will not
be needed and the estimated
time for construction is 18
months.
