Change of Ownership for Jasper Rubber
The Stalwart Rubber Company of Belford, Ohio
has agreed in principle to merge with Blasius In
dustries of New York. Stalwart, a 48 year old
manufacturer of rubber products, was founded by
Herman Osborn and was privately held until this
time. Stalwart employs 500 people. This includes
135 employees at Jasper Rubber Company.
Pickens Rescue Unit Sponsors Jamboree
The Pickens County Rescue Unit will sponsor a
Country & Western Jamboree on Saturday, May
31, 1969 at 8 p.m. This big shindig will take
place at the Pickens High Gym. All proceeds
from this occasion will go to the rescue unit for
badly needed funds.
Toll Free Telephone Service Now Set to Begin
Sept. 21
Toll-free telephone service between Jasper, Nel
son, Ball Ground and Marble Hill will begin
Sept. 21, 1969. In making the announcement
W.H. Paul, district manager for General Tele
phone, said the upcoming calling arrangement is
a joint undertaking of Nelson-Ball Ground Tele
phone Company, which includes the Marble Hill
community, and General Telephone in Jasper.
New School Buses Purchased Recently

purchased through Jasper Motors, Inc. The cost
of the new buses was $20,908.89 and is expected
to be paid for next week.
Bessa Cochran
Bessa Cochran, 92, of
Fairmount, Georgia, passed
away Thursday, May 11,
2023 at her home. She was
bom September 13, 1930 to
Andrew and Linnie Viola
Edwards in Ellijay, Georgia.
Bessa is survived by her
sons, Danny Cochran of
Pickens County, Larry
Cochran of Pickens County;
daughter, Pat Gibson of the Jerusalem Community; grand
children, Chad Cochran, Josh Gibson, Jessica Chastain; sis
ter, Dessa Caylor of the Jerusalem Community. Several
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also
survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cochran
and daughter, Judy Chumley.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13,
2023 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Joseph
Hightower officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship
Baptist Church Cemetery. (251 Pinhook Road; Ranger, GA
30734)

Timothy Williams
Timothy M. Williams, 58, of Chatsworth, Georgia passed
away on May 8th, 2023.

Joy Warden
Joy was bom on Decem
ber 23rd, 1955 in Staten Is
land, NY to Peter and Joan
Formica.
Joy is survived by Terry
Warden (husband), Tiffany
Smelley (husband Christo
pher), Miranda Maxam
(daughters) both reside in
Alabama; sister Nanette
Stuart (Barry), nephews:
Heath and Timothy Warren and their wives, children, 3
granddaughters and 1 great granddaughter; stepchildren:
Kendra Hunter (Matt), Kanyon Petti (Vince), Kallie Ferrell
(Johnathan) and Terry Warden II, along with 11 step grand
children.
Joy was a graduate of South Broward High School in Hol
lywood, FL in 1973.
Not only was Joy proficient in bookkeeping and an excel
lent cook but she was also a talented musician and had an ap
titude for learning new and interesting hobbies.
Fast forwarding to her years in Jasper that began in the
mid 1980s
Joy worked for many years as a waitress and later in office
management at the Woodbridge Inn. She also worked as a
cook at the Speedburger. She was well known and appreci
ated for her hard work and diligent efforts.
On January 16, 2009 Joy was privileged to become wife
to Terry Drew Warden.
Together they built a life of peaceful contentment. What
a blessing to spend the final 15 years of your life with some
one who cares deeply for you. For this she was truly grate
ful.
There will be a Celebration in remembrance of Joy's life
Sunday, May 21st 2023 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Bad Don
key Art Center located at 75 N Main St. Jasper, GA 30143.
Please know that all who wish to attend are welcome to
join the family at this occasion. Joy will be deeply missed.

Charles R. (Rusty) Brace II, 66, of Jasper, Georgia passed
away on May 3rd, 2023.
Visitation and a memorial service was held Saturday, May
6th, 2023 in the chapel of In Their Honor.

Bobbie Smallwood
Bobbie S. Smallwood, 81, a Navy Veteran of Cartersville,
Georgia passed away on May 3rd, 2023.
A remembrance will be held at a later date.

George Hill Jr.
George R. Hill Jr., 69, a Navy Veteran of Woodstock,
Georgia passed away on May 7th, 2023.
A memorial service will be held on June 6th, 2023 at 11
a.m. at Woodstock City Church with inurnment to follow at
Georgia National Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Peggy Ray
Peggy Anne Whitmore
Ray, 85, of Jasper, Georgia,
went to be with her Lord
and Savior on Thursday,
May 4, 2023 at Piedmont
Cartersville Medical Center
in Cartersville. She was
bom July 13, 1937 to Dutch
and Ellen Whitmore in
Jasper, Georgia. Peggy was
a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother. Peggy was a lifelong
member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ray of Jasper;
sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Tracy Ray of Jasper;
Tim Ray of Jasper; son-in-law, Toby and Sandra Jones of
Jasper; grandchildren, Philip and Beth Black, Justin and
Wendy Jones, Carson Ray, and Brennan Ray; great-grand
children, Emma Black, Addison Black, Colby Black, Rylea
Jones, and Abigail Jones. Numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins also survive.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Lee
Ray; daughter, Susan Ray Jones; parents, Dutch and Ellen
Whitmore; and brother, Ben Whitmore.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 7,2023
at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Reverend Grant Wade
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers: Philip Black, Colby Black, Carson Ray, Justin
Jones, Gary Rush, Alex McArthur, Troy Morris, Robbie Ray.
Honorary Pallbearer, Barry Turner.
The family accepted flowers or donations in Peggy's

tober 4, 1942 to Clarence
and Cora Lee Clark in
Jasper.
Houdini is survived by his wife, Joyce Clark of Jasper;
daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Brian Pendley of Ac-
worth; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Carrie Clark of El
lijay; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Shane Lipscomb of
Jasper; grandchildren, Payton Clark, Tucker Clark, Garrett
Pendley, Owen Pendley, Isabel Lipscomb, Kenzie Pendley,
Kimberly Jones, Kaleb Gee, Kyle Gee; sister and brother-in-
law, Louise and Ronnie Parker; sister-in-law, Ann Clark. Sev
eral other family members also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father,
Clarence and Cora Lee Clark; and brother, Joe Clark.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 13,
2023 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Pastor Pat
Shelton and Reverend Buck Parker officiating. Interment fol
lowed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be
Scott Clark, Tucker Clark, Garrett Pendley, Owen Pendley,
Kaleb Gee and Kyle Gee. Honorary pallbearers were David
Silvers and Brian Pendley.

Hospital.

ing Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Tim Duncan
of Jasper; daughter, Katie Cronan; brothers and sister-in-law,
Thomas Cantrell, and Steven & Linda Cantrell; brother-in-
law, Edlee & Sharon Wilkey; sister-in-law, Susie & Dale
Chastain; special friend, Rhonda Roberts; nine grandchil
dren, Ben Duncan, J.T. Duncan, Selena Batt, Corey Batt,
Seth Duncan, Mattie Cronan, Kaleb Cronan, Jacob Cronan,
and Brayden Cronan, and five great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry "Bat
man" Batt; father, Tom Cantrell; mother, Jean LaJoie; sisters,
Jeanna Mills and Janice Cantrell.
Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Thursday,
8 a.m. until the funeral service.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18,
2023 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steven Chap
man and Rev. Joe Hightower officiating.
Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens following
the funeral service.
Pallbearers: Ben Duncan, J.T. Duncan, Seth Duncan,
Corey Batt, Jessie Cantrell, and Brandon Cantrell. Honorary
pallbearers: Salina Batt, Mattie Cronan, Kaleb Cronan, Jacob
Cronan, and Brayden Cronan.

to Burnt Mountain Center in memory of Janice Cantrell.

Don Cook
William Donald (Don)
Cook, 90, of Jasper, Geor
gia, passed away on Mon
day, May 15, 2023, at his
home. He was bom July 12,
1932, in Milan, Telfair
County, Georgia.
Don is survived by his
wife of 62 years, Joan,
daughter, Lisa Cook of Gainesville, FL, son-in-law, Christo
pher Peardon of Anderson, SC, and grandsons, John Peardon
of Colorado Springs, CO, Jared Peardon of Anderson, SC,
and Andrew Peardon of Denver, CO. He is also survived by
brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Marsha Cook of Marietta,
Georgia, along with a number of nieces and nephews. He is
preceded in death by his parents, Millard Alexander and Eliz
abeth Walker Cook; sister, Claire Lowery; brothers, Hal
Cook, and Quay Cook and daughter, Lori Peardon. Don re
ceived an Associate Degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricul
tural College in Tifton, Georgia, and served in the United
States Marine Corp, a combat veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral services will be held at Fellowship Presbyterian
Church, at 10 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2023 with Rev. Blake
Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the
Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
